¹⁰ For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will not ^(A)the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols?

²⁸ But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” do not eat it ^(A)for the sake of the one who told you, and for conscience’ sake; ^[a]for ^(B)“the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.” ²⁹ “Conscience,” I say, not your own, but that of the other. For ^(C)why is my liberty judged by another man’s conscience?

²⁰ Rather, that the things which the Gentiles ^(A)sacrifice ^(B)they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. ^21 (C)You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and ^(D)the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the ^(E)Lord’s table and of the table of demons.

⁴ Therefore concerning the eating of things offered to idols, we know that ^(A)an idol is nothing in the world, ^(B)and that there is no other God but one.

²³ But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for ^(A)whatever is not from faith is ^[a]sin.

⁷ However, there is not in everyone that knowledge; for some, ^(A)with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is ^(B)defiled.

Be Sensitive to Conscience

8 Now ^(A)concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have ^(B)knowledge. ^(C)Knowledge ^[a]puffs up, but love ^[b]edifies. ² And ^(D)if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.

The Law of Love

¹⁴ I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus ^(A)that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
