¹¹ But if she does leave him, let her remain single or else be reconciled to him. And the husband must not leave his wife.

¹⁰ But for those who are married, I have a command that comes not from me, but from the Lord.^[a] A wife must not leave her husband.

50 This is what the Lord says:

² But she became angry with him^[a] and returned to her father’s home in Bethlehem.

After about four months, ³ her husband set out for Bethlehem to speak personally to her and persuade her to come back. He took with him a servant and a pair of donkeys. When he arrived at^[b] her father’s house, her father saw him and welcomed him.

¹⁹ They must also fine him 100 pieces of silver,^[a] which he must pay to the woman’s father because he publicly accused a virgin of Israel of shameful conduct. The woman will then remain the man’s wife, and he may never divorce her.

² Some Pharisees came and tried to trap him with this question: “Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife?”
