¹³ “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food,”^[a] and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is meant not for sexual immorality but for the Lord and the Lord for the body.^(A)

¹⁹ Or do you not know that your body is a temple^[a] of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?^(A)

¹⁶ Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?^[a](A)

¹² Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal bodies, so that you obey their desires.^(A)

³ For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;^{(A) 4} that each one of you know how to control your own body^[a] in holiness and honor, ⁵ not with lustful passion, like the gentiles who do not know God; ⁶ that no one wrong or exploit a brother or sister in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, just as we have already told you beforehand and solemnly warned you.^{(B) 7} For God did not call us to impurity but in holiness.

²³ for the husband is the head of the wife just as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.^(A)

¹⁵ Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never!^(A)

¹⁷ Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth enters the stomach and goes out into the sewer?

¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not food and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.^(A)

²² All these regulations refer to things that perish with use; they are simply human commands and teachings.^{(A) 23} These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-imposed piety, humility, and severe treatment of the body, but they are of no value in checking self-indulgence.^[a]
