¹² Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,

^3 (A)For the time will come when they will not endure ^(B)sound doctrine, ^(C)but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;

⁷ always learning and never able ^(A)to come to the knowledge of the truth.

²⁰ But in a great house there are not only ^(A)vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor.

¹⁸ Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has ^[a]not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, ¹⁹ and not holding fast to ^(A)the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, ^(B)grows with the increase that is from God.

^20 [b]Therefore, if you ^(C)died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, ^(D)why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations— ^21 (E)“Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” ²² which all concern things which perish with the using—^(F)according to the commandments and doctrines of men? ^23 (G)These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and ^[c]neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.

¹⁸ The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass.

¹⁸ I counsel you ^(A)to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and ^(B)white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.

⁷ that ^(A)the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though ^(B)it is tested by fire, ^(C)may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

⁶ then he need not honor his father ^[a]or mother.’ Thus you have made the ^[b]commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. ^7 (A)Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:
