⁸ None of the rulers of this age^(A) understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.^(B)

²⁷ The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus,^(A) yet in condemning him they fulfilled the words of the prophets^(B) that are read every Sabbath.

Favoritism Forbidden

2 My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious^(A) Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism.^(B)

² To this he replied: “Brothers and fathers,^(A) listen to me! The God of glory^(B) appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Harran.^(C)

God’s Wisdom Revealed by the Spirit

⁶ We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature,^(A) but not the wisdom of this age^(B) or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.^(C)

²² If I had not come and spoken to them,^(A) they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.^{(B) 23} Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works no one else did,^(C) they would not be guilty of sin.^(D) As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. ²⁵ But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law:^(E) ‘They hated me without reason.’^[a](F)

¹⁴ But their minds were made dull,^(A) for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant^(B) is read.^(C) It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.

¹⁶ By faith in the name of Jesus,^(A) this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.

¹⁷ “Now, fellow Israelites,^(B) I know that you acted in ignorance,^(C) as did your leaders.^(D)

³ They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me.^(A)
