³² and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets.

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them, ^(A)“Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, ²⁰ for ^(B)we cannot but speak of what ^(C)we have seen and heard.”

Test the Spirits

4 Beloved, ^(A)do not believe every spirit, but ^(B)test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for ^(C)many ^(D)false prophets ^(E)have gone out into the world.

²⁹ Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others ^(A)weigh what is said. ³⁰ If a revelation is made to another sitting there, ^(B)let the first be silent.

^5 (A)The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take away your master from over you?” And he answered, “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.”

³ And ^(A)the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take away your master from over you?” And he said, “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.”

¹⁹ And it was told Saul, “Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.” ²⁰ Then Saul sent messengers to take David, and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as head over them, ^(A)the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, ^(B)and they also prophesied. ²¹ When it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, ^(C)and they also prophesied. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, ^(D)and they also prophesied. ²² Then he himself went to Ramah and came to the great well that is in Secu. And he asked, “Where are Samuel and David?” And one said, “Behold, they are at Naioth in ^(E)Ramah.” ²³ And he went there to Naioth in Ramah. ^(F)And the Spirit of God came upon him also, and as he went he prophesied until he came to Naioth in Ramah. ^24 (G)And he too stripped off his clothes, and he too prophesied before Samuel and lay naked all that day and all that night. Thus it is said, ^(H)“Is Saul also among the prophets?”
