²² Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy,^(A) however, is not for unbelievers but for believers.

¹⁷ And these signs^(A) will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons;^(B) they will speak in new tongues;^(C)

⁶ When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. ⁷ Utterly amazed,^(A) they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?^{(B) 8} Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? ⁹ Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia,^(C) Pontus^(D) and Asia,^{[a](E) 10} Phrygia^(F) and Pamphylia,^(G) Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene;^(H) visitors from Rome ¹¹ (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” ¹² Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”

⁹ We also know that the law is made not for the righteous^(A) but for lawbreakers and rebels,^(B) the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,

14 Follow the way of love^(A) and eagerly desire^(B) gifts of the Spirit,^(C) especially prophecy.^(D)

³² God has raised this Jesus to life,^(A) and we are all witnesses^(B) of it. ³³ Exalted^(C) to the right hand of God,^(D) he has received from the Father^(E) the promised Holy Spirit^(F) and has poured out^(G) what you now see and hear. ³⁴ For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,

³⁶ “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord^(I) and Messiah.”^(J)
