²⁴ and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ^[a]“Take, eat; this is My body which is ^[b]broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless ^(A)you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. ^54 (B)Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For My flesh is ^[a]food indeed, and My blood is ^[b]drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood ^(C)abides in Me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. ^58 (D)This is the bread which came down from heaven—not ^(E)as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”

Examine Yourself

²⁷ Therefore whoever eats ^(A)this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and ^[a]blood of the Lord. ²⁸ But ^(B)let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

³ all ate the same ^(A)spiritual food, ⁴ and all drank the same ^(B)spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.

^16 (A)The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the ^[a]communion of the blood of Christ? ^(B)The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? ¹⁷ For ^(C)we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread.
