²⁴ No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.^(A)

¹⁰ Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people?^(A) If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

Paul’s Use of His Freedom

¹⁹ Though I am free^(A) and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone,^(B) to win as many as possible.^{(C) 20} To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews.^(D) To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law),^(E) so as to win those under the law. ²¹ To those not having the law I became like one not having the law^(F) (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law),^(G) so as to win those not having the law. ²² To the weak I became weak, to win the weak.^(H) I have become all things to all people^(I) so that by all possible means I might save some.^{(J) 23} I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

¹⁹ Have you been thinking all along that we have been defending ourselves to you? We have been speaking in the sight of God^(A) as those in Christ; and everything we do, dear friends,^(B) is for your strengthening.^(C)

² Each of us should please our neighbors for their good,^(A) to build them up.^{(B) 3} For even Christ did not please himself^(C) but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”^[a](D)

²⁸ Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches.^{(A) 29} Who is weak, and I do not feel weak?^(B) Who is led into sin,^(C) and I do not inwardly burn?

¹⁴ in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy^(A) and save^(B) some of them.
