²³ “All things are permitted,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are permitted,” but not all things build up.

Glorify God in Body and Spirit

¹² “All things are permitted for me,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are permitted for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.

⁹ But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.^(A)

²⁹ Let no evil talk come out of your mouths but only what is good for building up,^[a] as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear.

¹¹ Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing.

¹⁷ For you may give thanks well enough, but the other person is not built up.^(A)

Please Others, Not Yourselves

15 We who are strong ought to put up with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.^{(A) 2} Each of us must please our neighbor for the good purpose of building up the neighbor.^(B)

¹⁹ Let us then pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.^{(A) 20} Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong to make someone stumble by what you eat;

¹⁵ If your brother or sister is distressed by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. Do not let what you eat cause the ruin of one for whom Christ died.

⁴ and not to occupy themselves with myths and endless genealogies that promote speculations rather than the divine training^[a] that is known by faith.^(A)
