² In the cloud and in the sea, all of them were baptized as followers of Moses.

¹³ Has Christ been divided into factions? Was I, Paul, crucified for you? Were any of you baptized in the name of Paul? Of course not! ¹⁴ I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, ¹⁵ for now no one can say they were baptized in my name. ¹⁶ (Oh yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas, but I don’t remember baptizing anyone else.)

³ Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death?

² For he was faithful to God, who appointed him, just as Moses served faithfully when he was entrusted with God’s entire^[a] house.

³ But Jesus deserves far more glory than Moses, just as a person who builds a house deserves more praise than the house itself.

²⁷ And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes.^[a]

²⁸ Then they cursed him and said, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses! ²⁹ We know God spoke to Moses, but we don’t even know where this man comes from.”

³¹ When the people of Israel saw the mighty power that the Lord had unleashed against the Egyptians, they were filled with awe before him. They put their faith in the Lord and in his servant Moses.
