²⁹ This is what I mean, brothers: ^(A)the appointed time has grown very short. From now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none, ³⁰ and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy ^(B)as though they had no goods, ³¹ and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For ^(C)the present form of this world is passing away.

^9 (A)The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise ^(B)as some count slowness, but ^(C)is patient toward you,^{[a] (D)}not wishing that any should perish, but ^(E)that all should reach repentance. ¹⁰ But ^(F)the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then ^(G)the heavens will pass away with a roar, and ^(H)the heavenly bodies^[b] will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.^[c]

¹¹ Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, ^(I)what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, ^12 (J)waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and ^(K)the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!
