10 David consulta Dieu, en disant: Monterai-je contre les Philistins, et les livreras-tu entre mes mains? Et l'Éternel lui dit: Monte, et je les livrerai entre tes mains.
11 Ils montèrent à Baal Peratsim, où David les battit. Puis il dit: Dieu a dispersé mes ennemis par ma main, comme des eaux qui s'écoulent. C'est pourquoi l'on a donné à ce lieu le nom de Baal Peratsim.
12 Ils laissèrent là leurs dieux, qui furent brûlés au feu d'après l'ordre de David.

10 David consulta Dieu et lui demanda : Dois-je attaquer les Philistins ? Me donneras-tu la victoire sur eux ?
L’Eternel lui répondit : Attaque-les ! et je te donnerai la victoire sur eux.
11 Les Philistins s’avancèrent jusqu’à Baal-Peratsim et David les battit là. Puis il déclara : Dieu a fait une brèche, par ma main, dans le rang de mes ennemis, comme les eaux rompent une digue.
C’est pourquoi on a donné à ce lieu le nom de Baal-Peratsim (le Maître des brèches). 12 Les Philistins abandonnèrent leurs divinités sur place et David donna l’ordre de les brûler.

10 so David inquired of God: “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?”
The Lord answered him, “Go, I will deliver them into your hands.”
11 So David and his men went up to Baal Perazim,(A) and there he defeated them. He said, “As waters break out, God has broken out against my enemies by my hand.” So that place was called Baal Perazim.[a] 12 The Philistines had abandoned their gods there, and David gave orders to burn(B) them in the fire.(C)
