Capture of the City of Rabbah
20 In the spring[a] when kings march out to war,(A) Joab led the army and destroyed the Ammonites’ land. He came to Rabbah and besieged it, but David remained in Jerusalem.(B) Joab attacked Rabbah and demolished it. 2 Then David took the crown from the head of their king,[b][c](C) and it was placed on David’s head. He found that the crown weighed seventy-five pounds[d] of gold, and there was a precious stone in it. In addition, David took away a large quantity of plunder from the city. 3 He brought out the people who were in it and put them to work with saws,[e] iron picks, and axes.[f](D) David did the same to all the Ammonite cities. Then he and all his troops returned to Jerusalem.
The Philistine Giants
4 After this,(E) a war broke out with the Philistines at Gezer. At that time Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Sippai, a descendant of the Rephaim,[g](F) and the Philistines were subdued.
5 Once again there was a battle with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath of Gath. The shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam.(G)
6 There was still another battle at Gath where there was a man of extraordinary stature with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot—twenty-four in all. He, too, was descended from the giant.[h] 7 When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of David’s brother Shimei killed him.
8 These were the descendants of the giant in Gath killed by David and his soldiers.

The Capture of Rabbah(A)
20 In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, Joab led out the armed forces. He laid waste the land of the Ammonites and went to Rabbah(B) and besieged it, but David remained in Jerusalem. Joab attacked Rabbah and left it in ruins.(C) 2 David took the crown from the head of their king[a]—its weight was found to be a talent[b] of gold, and it was set with precious stones—and it was placed on David’s head. He took a great quantity of plunder from the city 3 and brought out the people who were there, consigning them to labor with saws and with iron picks and axes.(D) David did this to all the Ammonite towns. Then David and his entire army returned to Jerusalem.
War With the Philistines(E)
4 In the course of time, war broke out with the Philistines, at Gezer.(F) At that time Sibbekai the Hushathite killed Sippai, one of the descendants of the Rephaites,(G) and the Philistines were subjugated.
5 In another battle with the Philistines, Elhanan son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, who had a spear with a shaft like a weaver’s rod.(H)
6 In still another battle, which took place at Gath, there was a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot—twenty-four in all. He also was descended from Rapha. 7 When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, David’s brother, killed him.
8 These were descendants of Rapha in Gath, and they fell at the hands of David and his men.

Rabbah Is Conquered(A)
20 It(B) happened [a]in the spring of the year, at the time kings go out to battle, that Joab led out the armed forces and ravaged the country of the people of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But (C)David stayed at Jerusalem. And (D)Joab defeated Rabbah and overthrew it. 2 Then David (E)took their king’s crown from his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it. And it was set on David’s head. Also he brought out the [b]spoil of the city in great abundance. 3 And he brought out the people who were in it, and [c]put them to work with saws, with iron picks, and with axes. So David did to all the cities of the people of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
Philistine Giants Destroyed(F)
4 Now it happened afterward (G)that war broke out at [d]Gezer with the Philistines, at which time (H)Sibbechai the Hushathite killed [e]Sippai, who was one of the sons of [f]the giant. And they were subdued.
5 Again there was war with the Philistines, and Elhanan the son of [g]Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver’s (I)beam.
6 Yet again (J)there was war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, with twenty-four fingers and toes, six on each hand and six on each foot; and he also was born to [h]the giant. 7 So when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of [i]Shimea, David’s brother, killed him.
8 These were born to the giant in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.

20 Aconteció al año siguiente, en el tiempo en que los reyes suelen salir a la guerra, que Joab condujo las fuerzas del ejército, destruyó la tierra de los hijos de Amón y fue a sitiar Rabá. Pero David se había quedado en Jerusalén.
Joab atacó Rabá, y la destruyó. 2 Entonces David tomó la corona de la cabeza de su rey, y halló que pesaba treinta y tres kilos de oro y tenía piedras preciosas. Y fue puesta sobre la cabeza de David. También sacó mucho botín de la ciudad. 3 A la gente que estaba en ella la sacó y la puso a trabajar con sierras, trillos de hierro y hachas[a]. Lo mismo hizo David con todas las ciudades de los hijos de Amón. Luego David regresó con todo el pueblo a Jerusalén.

4 Aconteció después de esto que hubo en Gezer otra batalla contra los filisteos. Entonces Sibecai, de Husa, mató a Sipai, uno de los descendientes de los refaítas. Y ellos fueron sometidos.
5 Hubo otra batalla contra los filisteos. Entonces Eljanán hijo de Jaír mató a Lajmi, hermano de Goliat el geteo, el asta de cuya lanza era como un rodillo de telar.
6 Y hubo otra batalla en Gat, donde había un hombre de gran estatura, el cual tenía seis dedos en cada mano y seis dedos en cada pie, veinticuatro en total. Él también era un descendiente de Harafa. 7 Él desafió a Israel, pero lo mató Jonatán hijo de Simea, hermano de David.
8 Estos eran descendientes de Harafa en Gat, y cayeron por mano de David y por mano de sus servidores.
