1 Chronicles 20
1599 Geneva Bible
20 1 Rabbah destroyed. 3 The Ammonites tormented. 4 The Philistines are thrice overcome with their giants.
1 And (A)when the year was expired, in the time that kings go out a warfare, Joab carried out the strength of the army, and destroyed the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged [a]Rabbah (but David tarried at Jerusalem) and Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it.
2 (B)Then David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it the weight of a [b]talent of gold with precious stones in it: and it was set on David’s head, and he brought away the spoil of the city exceeding much.
3 And he carried away the people that were in it, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes: even thus did David with all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all the people came again to Jerusalem.
4 ¶ (C)And after this also there arose war at [c]Gezer with the Philistines: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew [d]Sippai of the children of [e]Haraphah, and they were subdued.
5 And there was yet another battle with the Philistines: and Elhanan the son of Jair slew [f]Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff was like a weaver’s beam.
6 And yet again there was a battle at Gath, where was a man of a great stature, and his fingers were by [g]sixes, even four and twenty, and was also the son of Haraphah.
7 And when he reviled Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother did slay him.
8 These were born unto Haraphah at Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hands of his servants.

Rabbah Is Conquered(A)
20 It(B) happened [a]in the spring of the year, at the time kings go out to battle, that Joab led out the armed forces and ravaged the country of the people of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But (C)David stayed at Jerusalem. And (D)Joab defeated Rabbah and overthrew it. 2 Then David (E)took their king’s crown from his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it. And it was set on David’s head. Also he brought out the [b]spoil of the city in great abundance. 3 And he brought out the people who were in it, and [c]put them to work with saws, with iron picks, and with axes. So David did to all the cities of the people of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
Philistine Giants Destroyed(F)
4 Now it happened afterward (G)that war broke out at [d]Gezer with the Philistines, at which time (H)Sibbechai the Hushathite killed [e]Sippai, who was one of the sons of [f]the giant. And they were subdued.
5 Again there was war with the Philistines, and Elhanan the son of [g]Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver’s (I)beam.
6 Yet again (J)there was war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, with twenty-four fingers and toes, six on each hand and six on each foot; and he also was born to [h]the giant. 7 So when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of [i]Shimea, David’s brother, killed him.
8 These were born to the giant in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.

The Capture of Rabbah
20 (A)In the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle, Joab led out the army and ravaged the country of the Ammonites and came and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. And (B)Joab struck down Rabbah and overthrew it. 2 (C)And David took the crown of their king from his head. He found that it weighed a talent[a] of gold, and in it was a precious stone. And it was placed on David's head. And he brought out the spoil of the city, a very great amount. 3 And he brought out the people who were in it and set them to labor[b] (D)with saws and iron picks and axes.[c] And thus David did to all the cities of the Ammonites. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
Philistine Giants Killed
4 (E)And after this there arose war with the Philistines at Gezer. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite struck down Sippai, who was one of the descendants of the giants, and the Philistines were subdued. 5 And there was again war with the Philistines, and Elhanan the son of (F)Jair struck down Lahmi (G)the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver's beam. 6 And there was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in number, and he also was descended from the giants. 7 And when he taunted Israel, Jonathan the son of (H)Shimea, David's brother, struck him down. 8 These were descended from the giants in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
