Generations of David

(A)These are the sons of Israel:

Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,
Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
(B)The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah; these three were born to him by Bath-shua the Canaanitess. And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil in the sight of [a]Yahweh, so He put him to death.
(C)Tamar his daughter-in-law bore him Perez and Zerah.
Judah had five sons in all.
The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.
The sons of Zerah were [b]Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and [c]Dara;
five of them in all.
The [d]son of Carmi was [e](D)Achar, the troubler of Israel, who violated what was devoted to destruction.
The [f]son of Ethan was Azariah.
Now the sons of Hezron, who were born to him were Jerahmeel, Ram, and Chelubai.
10 Ram [g]became the father of Amminadab,
and Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, leader of the sons of Judah;
11 Nahshon became the father of Salma,
Salma became the father of Boaz,
12 Boaz became the father of Obed,
and Obed became the father of Jesse;
13 and Jesse became the father of Eliab his firstborn, then Abinadab the second, [h]Shimea the third,
14 Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth,
15 Ozem the sixth, David the seventh;
16 and their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail.
And the three sons of Zeruiah were [i]Abshai, Joab, and Asahel.
17 Abigail bore Amasa, and the father of Amasa was [j]Jether the Ishmaelite.
18 Now Caleb the son of Hezron became a father by Azubah his wife, and by Jerioth; and these were her sons: Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon.
19 Then Azubah died, and Caleb took for himself Ephrath as a wife, and she bore him Hur.
20 Hur became the father of Uri,
and Uri became the father of Bezalel.
21 Afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead, whom he took as a wife when he was sixty years old; and she bore him Segub.
22 Segub became the father of Jair, and he had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead.
23 But Geshur and Aram took [k]Havvoth-jair from them, with Kenath and its villages, even sixty cities. All these were the sons of Machir, the father of Gilead.
24 After the death of Hezron in Caleb-ephrathah, Abijah, Hezron’s wife, bore him Ashhur the father of Tekoa.
25 And the sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron were Ram the firstborn, then Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah.
26 Jerahmeel had another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam.
27 The sons of Ram, the firstborn of Jerahmeel, were Maaz, Jamin, and Eker.
28 The sons of Onam were Shammai and Jada.
And the sons of Shammai were Nadab and Abishur.
29 The name of Abishur’s wife was Abihail, and she bore him Ahban and Molid.
30 The sons of Nadab were Seled and Appaim, and Seled died without sons.
31 The [l]son of Appaim was Ishi.
And the [m]son of Ishi was Sheshan.
And the [n]son of Sheshan was Ahlai.
32 The sons of Jada the brother of Shammai were Jether and Jonathan, and Jether died without sons.
33 The sons of Jonathan were Peleth and Zaza.
These were the sons of Jerahmeel.
34 Now Sheshan had no sons, only daughters. And Sheshan had an Egyptian slave whose name was Jarha.
35 Sheshan gave his daughter to Jarha his servant as a wife, and she bore him Attai.
36 Attai became the father of Nathan,
and Nathan became the father of Zabad,
37 and Zabad became the father of Ephlal,
and Ephlal became the father of Obed,
38 and Obed became the father of Jehu,
and Jehu became the father of Azariah,
39 and Azariah became the father of Helez,
and Helez became the father of Eleasah,
40 and Eleasah became the father of Sismai,
and Sismai became the father of Shallum,
41 and Shallum became the father of Jekamiah,
and Jekamiah became the father of Elishama.
42 Now the sons of Caleb, the brother of Jerahmeel, were Mesha his firstborn, who was the father of Ziph; and [o]his son was Mareshah, the father of Hebron.
43 The sons of Hebron were Korah and Tappuah and Rekem and Shema.
44 Shema became the father of Raham, the father of Jorkeam;
and Rekem became the father of Shammai.
45 The son of Shammai was Maon,
and Maon was the father of Bethzur.
46 Ephah, Caleb’s concubine, bore Haran, Moza, and Gazez;
and Haran became the father of Gazez.
47 The sons of Jahdai were Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.
48 Maacah, Caleb’s concubine, bore Sheber and Tirhanah.
49 She also bore Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Machbena and the father of Gibea; and the daughter of Caleb was Achsah.
50 These were the sons of Caleb.
The [p]sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah, were Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim,
51 Salma the father of Bethlehem and Hareph the father of Beth-gader.
52 Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim had sons:
Haroeh, half of the Manahathites,
53 and the families of Kiriath-jearim:
the Ithrites, the Puthites, the Shumathites, and the Mishraites; from these came the Zorathites and the Eshtaolites.
54 The sons of Salma were Bethlehem and the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab and half of the Manahathites, the Zorites.
55 The families of scribes who lived at Jabez were the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and the Sucathites. Those are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab.

Jakobs sønner og Judas slægt

Jakob fik 12 sønner: Ruben, Simeon, Levi, Juda, Issakar, Zebulon, Dan, Josef, Benjamin, Naftali, Gad og Asher.

3-4 Juda havde fem sønner i alt. Med en kana’anæisk kvinde, en datter af Shua, fik han Er, Onan og Shela. Er var så ond, at Herren dræbte ham. Derudover fik Juda to sønner med Tamar, som var enke efter Er. De var tvillinger og hed Peretz og Zerach.

Peretz fik sønnerne Hetzron og Hamul.

Zerach fik fem sønner: Zimri,[a] Etan, Heman, Kalkol og Darda. Det var Zimris sønnesøn Akar,[b] søn af Karmi, der bragte ulykke over Israel ved at tilrane sig noget af det krigsbytte, som Gud havde sagt skulle totalt ødelægges. Etan fik en søn ved navn Azarja.

Hetzron fik tre sønner: Jerahme’el, Ram og Kaleb.

10 Ram blev far til Amminadab, som blev far til Nahshon, der var en berømt leder i Judas stamme. 11 Nahshon blev far til Salma,[c] som blev far til Boaz. 12 Boaz blev far til Obed, som blev far til Isaj. 13 Isaj fik sønnerne Eliab, Abinadab, Shimea, 14 Netanel, Raddaj, 15 Ozem og David. 16 Desuden fik han to døtre, Zeruja og Abigajil. Zeruja fik tre sønner: Abishaj, Joab og Asael. 17 Abigajil giftede sig med ishmaelitten Jeter og fik en søn ved navn Amasa.

18 Kaleb, Hetzrons søn, fik med sin kone Azuba[d] en datter, Jeriot, og sønnerne Jesher, Shobab og Ardon. 19 Senere, efter Azubas død, giftede Kaleb sig med Efrat, der fødte ham en søn, Hur, 20 som blev far til Uri. Uri blev far til Betzalel.

21 Da Hetzron var 60 år gammel, giftede han sig med en datter af Makir, søster til Gilead. Hun fødte ham sønnen Segub. 22 Segub blev far til Jair, som rådede over 23 landsbyer i Gileads land. 23 Men geshuritterne og aramæerne erobrede byerne og fratog ham også Kenat og de omliggende småbyer, i alt 60 byer.

24 Da Hetzron var død, giftede Kaleb sig med Efrat, sin fars enke.[e] Hun fødte ham en dreng ved navn Ashhur, der senere grundlagde Tekoa.

25 Jerahme’el, Hetzrons ældste søn, fik fem sønner: Ram, Buna, Oren, Ozem og Ahija. 26 Jerahme’els anden kone, Atara, fødte sønnen Onam. 27 Rams sønner var Ma’az, Jamin og Eker. 28 Onams sønner hed Shammaj og Jada. Shammajs sønner hed Nadab og Abishur. 29 Abishurs kone hed Abihajil, og hun fødte sønnerne Ahban og Molid. 30 Nadabs sønner hed Seled og Appajim. Seled døde uden at få børn. 31 Appajim fik sønnen Jishi, der blev far til Sheshan, som fik datteren[f] Ahlaj. 32 Shammajs bror, Jada, fik to sønner: Jeter og Jonatan. Jeter døde uden at få børn. 33 Jonatan fik sønnerne Pelet og Zaza. 34-35 Sheshan fik ingen sønner, kun døtre. En af døtrene bortgiftede han til Jarha, sin egyptiske tjener; og de fik sønnen Attaj. 36-41 Slægtslinien fra Attaj til Elishama er som følger: Attaj, Natan, Zabad, Eflal, Obed, Jehu, Azarja, Heletz, Elasa, Sismaj, Shallum, Jekamja og Elishama.

42 Kalebs førstefødte søn hed Mesha, og han blev far til Zif. En anden søn hed Maresha, som blev far til Hebron.[g] 43 Hebron fik sønnerne Kora, Tappuach, Rekem og Shema. 44 Shema blev far til Raham, som blev far til Jorkeam. Rekem fik sønnen Shammaj. 45 Shammajs søn, Maon, blev far til Bet-Zur.

46 Kalebs medhustru, Efa, fødte Karan, Moza og Gazez. Karan fik også en søn, der hed Gazez. 47 Jadaj fik seks sønner: Regem, Jotam, Geshan, Pelet, Efa og Sha’af.

48-49 En anden af Kalebs medhustruer hed Ma’aka. Hun fødte Sheber, Tirhana, Sha’af, der blev far til Madmanna, og Sheva, der blev far til Makbena og Gibea. Kaleb fik også en datter ved navn Aksa.

50 Hur, som var søn af Kaleb og Efrat, blev også far[h] til Shobal, der grundlagde Kirjat-Jearim; 51 Salma, der grundlagde Betlehem; og Haref, der grundlagde Bet-Gader. 52 Shobal blev far til Haroe og slægtsoverhoved for halvdelen af befolkningen i Manahat. 53 Fra Kirjat-Jearim kom følgende slægter: jitritterne, putitterne, shumatitterne og mishraitterne. Fra dem nedstammer zoratitterne og eshtaolitterne.

54 Salma, Betlehems grundlægger, blev forfar til befolkningen i Netofa, Atarot-Bet-Joab og til halvdelen af manahatitterne og zoritterne. 55 Herunder hører skriverne i byen Jabetz: tiratitterne, shimatitterne og sukatitterne. Alle disse er kinitter—efterkommere af Hammat, der var forfar til rekabitterne.
