17 And it came to pass, when David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of Jehovah dwelleth under curtains. 2 And Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thy heart; for God is with thee. 3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, 4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith Jehovah, Thou shalt not build me a house to dwell in: 5 for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel, unto this day, but [a]have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another. 6 In all places wherein I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people, saying, Why have ye not built me a house of cedar? 7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, I took thee from the [b]sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be [c]prince over my people Israel: 8 and I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast gone, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth. 9 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the first, 10 and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I [d]will subdue all thine enemies. Moreover I tell thee that Jehovah will build thee a house. 11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days are fulfilled that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will set up thy seed after thee, who shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne for ever. 13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my lovingkindness away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee; 14 but I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom for ever; and his throne shall be established for ever. 15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.
16 Then David the king went in, and sat before Jehovah; and he said, Who am I, O Jehovah God, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far? 17 And this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; but thou hast spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O Jehovah God. 18 What can David say yet more unto thee concerning the honor which is done to thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant. 19 O Jehovah, for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make known all these great things. 20 O Jehovah, there is none like thee, neither is there any God besides thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 21 [e]And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, to make thee a name by great and terrible things, in driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou redeemedst out of Egypt? 22 For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, Jehovah, becamest their God. 23 And now, O Jehovah, let the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, be established for ever, and do as thou hast spoken. 24 [f]And let thy name be established and magnified for ever, saying, Jehovah of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and the house of David thy servant is established before thee. 25 For thou, O my God, hast revealed to thy servant that thou wilt build him a house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray before thee. 26 And now, O Jehovah, thou art God, and hast promised this good thing unto thy servant: 27 and now it hath pleased thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Jehovah, hast blessed, and it is blessed for ever.

God’s Promise to David(A)
17 After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.(B)”
2 Nathan replied to David, “Whatever you have in mind,(C) do it, for God is with you.”
3 But that night the word of God came to Nathan, saying:
4 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: You(D) are not the one to build me a house to dwell in. 5 I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt to this day. I have moved from one tent site to another, from one dwelling place to another. 6 Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their leaders[a] whom I commanded to shepherd my people, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?(E)”’
7 “Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler(F) over my people Israel. 8 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name like the names of the greatest men on earth. 9 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning 10 and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders(G) over my people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies.
“‘I declare to you that the Lord will build a house for you: 11 When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He is the one who will build(H) a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.(I) 13 I will be his father,(J) and he will be my son.(K) I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor. 14 I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne(L) will be established forever.(M)’”
15 Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.
David’s Prayer(N)
16 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said:
“Who am I, Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 17 And as if this were not enough in your sight, my God, you have spoken about the future of the house of your servant. You, Lord God, have looked on me as though I were the most exalted of men.
18 “What more can David say to you for honoring your servant? For you know your servant, 19 Lord. For the sake(O) of your servant and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made known all these great promises.(P)
20 “There is no one like you, Lord, and there is no God but you,(Q) as we have heard with our own ears. 21 And who is like your people Israel—the one nation on earth whose God went out to redeem(R) a people for himself, and to make a name for yourself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt? 22 You made your people Israel your very own forever,(S) and you, Lord, have become their God.
23 “And now, Lord, let the promise(T) you have made concerning your servant and his house be established forever. Do as you promised, 24 so that it will be established and that your name will be great forever. Then people will say, ‘The Lord Almighty, the God over Israel, is Israel’s God!’ And the house of your servant David will be established before you.
25 “You, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build a house for him. So your servant has found courage to pray to you. 26 You, Lord, are God! You have promised these good things to your servant. 27 Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight;(U) for you, Lord, have blessed it, and it will be blessed forever.”

17 Sau khi Ða-vít đã ổn định trong cung điện của ông, Ða-vít nói với Tiên Tri Na-than, “Tôi ở trong cung điện làm bằng gỗ bá hương, còn Rương Giao Ước của Chúa thì ở dưới cái lều.”
2 Na-than nói với Ða-vít, “Hãy làm tất cả những gì lòng ngài muốn, vì Ðức Chúa Trời đang ở với ngài.”
3 Tuy nhiên tối hôm đó, có lời của Chúa đến với Na-than, 4 “Hãy đi và nói với Ða-vít tôi tớ Ta, Chúa phán thế nầy: Ngươi sẽ không xây cho Ta một ngôi nhà để Ta ở, 5 vì từ ngày Ta đem dân I-sơ-ra-ên ra đi cho đến ngày nay, Ta không ở trong nhà nào, nhưng Ta ở từ lều nầy sang lều khác, và ở trong Ðền Tạm. 6 Suốt thời gian Ta di chuyển từ nơi nầy đến nơi khác với toàn dân I-sơ-ra-ên, có bao giờ Ta nói một lời nào với một thủ lãnh nào của I-sơ-ra-ên mà Ta đã lập lên để chăn dắt dân Ta rằng: Sao ngươi không xây cho Ta một căn nhà bằng gỗ bá hương chăng? 7 Vậy bây giờ ngươi hãy nói với Ða-vít tôi tớ Ta: Chúa các đạo quân phán thế nầy: Ta đã cất nhắc ngươi lên từ đồng cỏ, từ nơi ngươi đi sau đàn chiên, để trở thành người cai trị dân I-sơ-ra-ên của Ta. 8 Ta đã ở với ngươi bất cứ nơi nào ngươi đi đến. Mọi kẻ thù của ngươi Ta đã tiêu diệt trước mắt ngươi. Ta sẽ làm cho ngươi được nổi danh như danh của các vĩ nhân trên đất. 9 Ta sẽ chọn một nơi cho dân I-sơ-ra-ên của Ta. Ta sẽ trồng chúng xuống để chúng sẽ có một chỗ ở riêng cho chúng. Chúng sẽ không bị ai quấy nhiễu nữa. Những kẻ gian ác sẽ không làm khổ chúng như thuở trước nữa, 10 tức thuở Ta lập các thủ lãnh cai trị dân I-sơ-ra-ên của Ta. Ta sẽ bắt tất cả kẻ thù của ngươi phải chịu khuất phục. Ngoài ra Ta tuyên bố cho ngươi biết: Chúa sẽ xây cho ngươi một nhà. 11 Khi những ngày của ngươi trên đất mãn, ngươi sẽ quy về với tổ tiên ngươi, rồi Ta sẽ dấy lên một người trong dòng dõi ngươi để kế vị ngươi; đó là một trong các con của ngươi. Ta sẽ làm cho vương quốc của nó được vững lập. 12 Nó sẽ xây một ngôi nhà cho Ta, và Ta sẽ làm cho ngai của nó được vững lập đời đời. 13 Ta sẽ làm cha nó, và nó sẽ làm con Ta. Ta sẽ không rút lại tình thương Ta dành cho nó, như Ta đã làm đối với kẻ tiền nhiệm của ngươi. 14 Nhưng Ta sẽ làm cho nó được vững lập trong nhà Ta và trong vương quốc của Ta đời đời.”
15 Na-than thuật lại mọi lời ấy và tất cả khải tượng ấy cho Ða-vít y như ông đã nhận.
Lời Cầu Nguyện của Ða-vít
(2 Sa 7:18-29)
16 Bấy giờ Vua Ða-vít đi vào và ngồi trước thánh nhan Chúa, ông nói, “Lạy Chúa Ðức Chúa Trời, con là ai? Và gia đình con là gì mà Ngài đã cho con được như thế nầy? 17 Ðức Chúa Trời ôi, đã thế mà Ngài còn coi đó là việc nhỏ trước mặt Ngài, nên Ngài đã phán trước về tương lai nhiều năm về sau của nhà đầy tớ Ngài. Ngài xem con như một người cao trọng, lạy Chúa Ðức Chúa Trời. 18 Ngài đã quá tôn trọng đầy tớ Ngài; Ða-vít còn biết nói gì với Ngài bây giờ? Ngài quả đã biết rõ đầy tớ Ngài. 19 Chúa ôi, vì cớ đầy tớ Ngài và theo lòng tốt của Ngài, Ngài đã làm mọi việc lớn lao nầy, và lại còn bày tỏ mọi điều lớn lao ấy ra. 20 Chúa ôi, không ai giống như Ngài, và không có Ðức Chúa Trời nào khác ngoài ra Ngài, theo như mọi điều tai chúng con đã nghe. 21 Nào ai được như dân I-sơ-ra-ên của Ngài, một dân trên đất đã được Ðức Chúa Trời đến cứu chuộc, để trở thành một dân riêng của Ngài, khiến cho danh Ngài trở nên lẫy lừng qua các việc lớn lao và khủng khiếp Ngài đã làm khi Ngài đuổi các dân trước mặt dân Ngài, những kẻ Ngài đã cứu chuộc ra khỏi Ai-cập. 22 Nhưng Ngài đã làm cho dân I-sơ-ra-ên của Ngài thành một dân thuộc riêng về Ngài đời đời; còn Ngài, Chúa ôi, Ngài là Ðức Chúa Trời của họ.
23 Bây giờ Chúa ôi, nguyện sứ điệp mà Ngài đã phán về đầy tớ Ngài và về nhà của nó sẽ được vững lập đời đời, và cầu xin Ngài thực hiện lời Ngài đã phán, 24 để danh Ngài được vững lập và được tán dương đời đời. Nguyện người ta sẽ nói rằng, ‘Lạy Chúa của các đạo quân, Ðức Chúa Trời của I-sơ-ra-ên, Ngài chính là Ðức Chúa Trời của I-sơ-ra-ên.’ Nguyện nhà của Ða-vít đầy tớ Ngài sẽ được vững lập trước thánh nhan Ngài. 25 Vì Ngài, Ðức Chúa Trời của con, đã bày tỏ cho đầy tớ Ngài rằng Ngài sẽ xây một nhà cho nó. Do đó đầy tớ Ngài mới dám cầu nguyện trước thánh nhan Ngài. 26 Bây giờ Chúa ôi, Ngài là Ðức Chúa Trời, và Ngài đã hứa ban phước hạnh ấy cho đầy tớ Ngài. 27 Vậy nếu đẹp lòng Ngài, xin Ngài ban phước cho nhà đầy tớ Ngài, để nó được tồn tại đời đời trước thánh nhan Ngài, vì Ngài, Chúa ôi, đã ban phước cho nó, và nó sẽ được ban phước đến đời đời.”
