1 Chronicles 14
1599 Geneva Bible
14 1 Hiram sendeth wood and workmen to David. 4 The names of his children. 8, 14 By the counsel of God he goeth against the Philistines, and overcometh them. 15 God fighteth for him.
1 Then (A)sent Hiram the King of [a]Tyre messengers to David, and Cedar trees, with masons and carpenters to build him an house.
2 Therefore David knew that the Lord had confirmed him King over Israel, and that his kingdom was lift up on high, because of his [b]people Israel.
3 ¶ Also David took more wives at Jerusalem, and David begat more sons and daughters.
4 And these are the names of the children which he had at Jerusalem, Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,
5 And Ibhar, and Elishua, and [c]Elpelet,
6 And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
7 And Elishama, and [d]Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
8 But when the Philistines heard that David was anointed King over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David. And when David heard, he went out against them.
9 And the Philistines came, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
10 Then David asked counsel at God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines, and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up: for I will deliver them into thine hand.
11 So they came up to Baal Perazim, and David smote them there: and David said, God hath divided mine enemies with mine hand, as waters are divided: therefore they called the name of that place, [e]Baal Perazim.
12 And there they had left their gods: and David said, Let them even be burnt with fire.
13 Again the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley.
14 And when David asked again counsel at God, God said to him, Thou shalt not go up after them, but turn away from them, that thou mayest come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
15 And when thou hearest the noise of one going in the tops of the mulberry trees, then go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.
16 So David did as God had commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.
17 And the fame of David went out into all lands: and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.

David Established at Jerusalem(A)
14 Now (B)Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, with masons and carpenters, to build him a house. 2 So David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel, for his kingdom was (C)highly exalted for the sake of His people Israel.
3 Then David took more wives in Jerusalem, and David begot more sons and daughters. 4 And (D)these are the names of his children whom he had in Jerusalem: [a]Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, 5 Ibhar, [b]Elishua, [c]Elpelet, 6 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, 7 Elishama, [d]Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
The Philistines Defeated(E)
8 Now when the Philistines heard that (F)David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. And David heard of it and went out against them. 9 Then the Philistines went and made a raid (G)on the Valley of [e]Rephaim. 10 And David (H)inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?”
The Lord said to him, “Go up, for I will deliver them into your hand.”
11 So they went up to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there. Then David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand like a breakthrough of water.” Therefore they called the name of that place [f]Baal Perazim. 12 And when they left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.
13 (I)Then the Philistines once again made a raid on the valley. 14 Therefore David inquired again of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around them, (J)and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. 15 And it shall be, when you hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” 16 So David did as God commanded him, and they drove back the army of the Philistines from [g]Gibeon as far as Gezer. 17 Then (K)the fame of David went out into all lands, and the Lord (L)brought the fear of him upon all nations.

David’s Wives and Children
14 And Hiram, king of Tyre, sent messengers to David and cedar trees, masons,[a] and carpenters[b] to build a house for him. 2 And David knew that Yahweh had established him as king over Israel and that his kingdom was highly exalted for the sake of his people Israel. 3 And David took more wives in Jerusalem, and David fathered more sons and daughters. 4 Now these are the names of the children who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, 5 Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet, 6 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, 7 Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
David Defeats the Philistines
8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. But David heard and went out from before them. 9 Now the Philistines came and carried out a raid in the Valley of Rephaim. 10 Then David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you put them into my hand?” And Yahweh said to him, “Go up. I will put them into your hand.” 11 And he went up to Baal-Perazim, and David struck them there. And David said, “God has burst out against my enemies by my hand like waters burst out.” Therefore they will call the name of this place Baal-Perazim. 12 And they abandoned their gods there. And David commanded, and they were burnt with fire. 13 Then the Philistines carried out another raid[c] in the valley. 14 Then David inquired again of God. And God said to him, “You shall not go up after them. Go around from before them and come against them the opposite way of the balsam trees. 15 And it shall be that when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then go out into battle, for God goes out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” 16 And David did as God commanded him, and they struck the camp of the Philistines from Gibeon to Gezer. 17 And the fame of David went out through all the lands. And Yahweh put the fear of him upon all the nations.
