12 Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish: and they were among the mighty men, helpers of the war. 2 They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in hurling stones and shooting arrows out of a bow, even of Saul’s brethren of Benjamin. 3 The chief was Ahiezer, then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; and Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; and Berachah, and Jehu the Antothite, 4 and Ismaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty; and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Josabad the Gederathite, 5 Eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite, 6 Elkanah, and Jesiah, and Azareel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korhites, 7 and Joelah, and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor. 8 And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war fit for the battle, that could handle shield and buckler, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as swift as the roes upon the mountains; 9 Ezer the first, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third, 10 Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth, 11 Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh, 12 Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth, 13 Jeremiah the tenth, Machbanai the eleventh. 14 These were of the sons of Gad, captains of the host: one of the least was over an hundred, and the greatest over a thousand. 15 These are they that went over Jordan in the first month, when it had overflown all his banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west. 16 And there came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the hold unto David. 17 And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be knit unto you: but if ye be come to betray me to mine enemies, seeing there is no wrong in mine hands, the God of our fathers look thereon, and rebuke it. 18 Then the spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band. 19 And there fell some of Manasseh to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle: but they helped them not: for the lords of the Philistines upon advisement sent him away, saying, He will fall to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads. 20 As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zilthai, captains of the thousands that were of Manasseh. 21 And they helped David against the band of the rovers: for they were all mighty men of valour, and were captains in the host. 22 For at that time day by day there came to David to help him, until it was a great host, like the host of God.
23 And these are the numbers of the bands that were ready armed to the war, and came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the Lord. 24 The children of Judah that bare shield and spear were six thousand and eight hundred, ready armed to the war. 25 Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valour for the war, seven thousand and one hundred. 26 Of the children of Levi four thousand and six hundred. 27 And Jehoiada was the leader of the Aaronites, and with him were three thousand and seven hundred; 28 and Zadok, a young man mighty of valour, and of his father’s house twenty and two captains. 29 And of the children of Benjamin, the kindred of Saul, three thousand: for hitherto the greatest part of them had kept the ward of the house of Saul. 30 And of the children of Ephraim twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valour, famous throughout the house of their fathers. 31 And of the half tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, which were expressed by name, to come and make David king. 32 And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment. 33 Of Zebulun, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, with all instruments of war, fifty thousand, which could keep rank: they were not of double heart. 34 And of Naphtali a thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty and seven thousand. 35 And of the Danites expert in war twenty and eight thousand and six hundred. 36 And of Asher, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, forty thousand. 37 And on the other side of Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half tribe of Manasseh, with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, an hundred and twenty thousand. 38 All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king. 39 And there they were with David three days, eating and drinking: for their brethren had prepared for them. 40 Moreover they that were nigh them, even unto Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, and meat, meal, cakes of figs, and bunches of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep abundantly: for there was joy in Israel.

El ejército de David
12 Éstos son los valientes que ayudaron a David en la guerra, y que se le unieron en Siclag, mientras él se encontraba en prisión por culpa de Saúl hijo de Cis. 2 Eran certeros arqueros, capaces de usar las dos manos para lanzar piedras con honda y disparar flechas.
De los hermanos de Saúl de Benjamín:
3 En primer lugar, Ajiezer; y en segundo, Joás. Estos dos eran hijos de Semagá el gabaatita.
Jeziel y Pelet, hijos de Azmavet; Beraca, Jehú el anatotita, 4 Ismaías el gabaonita, uno de los treinta valientes, y el más valiente de los treinta; Jeremías, Jahaziel, Johanán, Jozabad el gederatita; 5 Eluzai, Jerimot, Bealías, Semarías, Sefatías el harufita, 6 Elcana, Isías, Azareel, Joezer y Yasobeán, todos ellos coreítas, 7 y Joela y Zebadías, hijos de Jeroán de Gedor.
8 También algunos gaditas se unieron a David mientras éste estaba en la fortaleza del desierto. Eran hombres muy valientes y aguerridos, que sabían manejar el escudo; su rostro reflejaba la fiereza de los leones, y eran ligeros de pies, como las gacelas en los montes. 9 El primero era Ezer, y le seguían, en ese orden, Abdías, Eliab, 10 Mismana, Jeremías, 11 Atay, Eliel, 12 Johanán, Elzabad, 13 Jeremías y Macbanay. 14 Éstos fueron capitanes del ejército gadita. El menor de ellos valía por cien soldados, y el mayor de ellos valía por mil. 15 Todos ellos cruzaron el Jordán en el mes primero, cuando el río se había desbordado por completo, y pusieron en fuga a todos los que vivían en los valles al oriente y al poniente.
16 También algunos de los benjaminitas y de la tribu de Judá se unieron a David en la fortaleza. 17 David habló con ellos, y les dijo: «Si ustedes han venido a verme en son de paz, y quieren ayudarme, yo me uniré a ustedes de todo corazón; pero si lo que quieren es entregarme a mis enemigos, que el Dios de nuestros padres lo vea y lo juzgue, pues yo no he cometido ninguna maldad.» 18 Entonces el espíritu se apoderó de Amasay, jefe de los treinta, y dijo:
«¡Por ti, David hijo de Yesé, y contigo! ¡Paz, paz contigo! ¡Y paz también con quienes te ayudan, pues también tu Dios te ayuda!»
Así David los recibió y los nombró capitanes de la tropa.
19 También algunos de Manasés se pusieron de parte de David cuando éste acompañó a los filisteos a la batalla contra Saúl. (En realidad no los ayudó, pues los jefes de los filisteos acordaron despedirlo porque dijeron: «Nuestra cabeza peligra si David se pasa al bando de su señor Saúl.»)
20 Cuando David llegó a Siclag, se le unieron algunos de Manasés, que fueron Adnas, Jozabad, Jediaiel, Micael, Jozabad, Eliú y Siletay, que en su tribu eran jefes de legiones. 21 Éstos ayudaron a David contra las bandas de malhechores, pues todos ellos eran aguerridos y capitaneaban el ejército. 22 A decir verdad, todos los días le llegaba ayuda a David, hasta que logró hacerse de un ejército muy numeroso.
23 Éste es el número de los jefes que estaban en pie de guerra y que, conforme a la palabra del Señor, llegaron a Hebrón para entregarle a David el trono de Saúl:
24 De los hijos de Judá que portaban escudo y lanza, seis mil ochocientos hombres listos para la guerra.
25 De los hijos de Simeón, siete mil cien hombres valientes y esforzados para la guerra.
26 De los hijos de Leví, cuatro mil seiscientos hombres.
27 Joyadá, que era jefe de los aaronitas, y sus tres mil setecientos hombres.
28 Sadoc, joven valiente y esforzado, con veintidós jefes de la familia de su padre.
29 De los benjaminitas parientes de Saúl, tres mil hombres. Hasta entonces, muchos de ellos se habían mantenido fieles a la familia de Saúl.
30 De los hijos de Efraín, veinte mil ochocientos hombres aguerridos, muy valientes y famosos en las familias de sus antepasados.
31 De la media tribu de Manasés, dieciocho mil hombres, designados de manera especial para ir y proclamar a David como rey.
32 De los hijos de Isacar, doscientos jefes, cuyas palabras eran respetadas por todos sus parientes, pues sabían cuándo actuar y qué debía hacer Israel.
33 De Zabulón, cincuenta mil hombres listos para entrar en batalla y que sabían manejar toda clase de armas. Siempre estaban dispuestos a pelear sin dar ni pedir cuartel.
34 De Neftalí, mil capitanes, más treinta y siete mil hombres con escudo y lanza.
35 De los danitas, veintiocho mil seiscientos hombres dispuestos a entrar en combate.
36 De Aser, cuarenta mil hombres dispuestos y preparados para entrar en combate.
37 De los rubenitas y gaditas y de la media tribu de Manasés, al otro lado del Jordán, ciento veinte mil hombres armados hasta los dientes.
38 Todos estos guerreros estaban dispuestos a entrar en combate, así que fueron a Hebrón con el corazón en la mano, para proclamar a David como rey de todo Israel. En realidad todos en Israel compartían el mismo deseo de proclamar como rey a David. 39 Y estuvieron allí tres días comiendo y bebiendo con David, pues sus parientes habían preparado todo para ellos. 40 También Isacar, Zabulón y Neftalí, que vivían cerca, llevaron asnos, camellos, mulos y bueyes cargados de víveres y de provisiones de harina, de tortas de higos y pasas, y vino y aceite, y muchos bueyes y ovejas, porque todos en Israel estaban alegres.

Ang mga Tao na Sumama kay David at ang Kanyang mga Sundalo
12 Ito ang mga tao na pumunta kay David doon sa Ziklag nang siyaʼy nagtatago kay Saul na anak ni Kish. Kasama sila sa mga tumulong kay David sa labanan. 2 Armado sila ng mga pana at mahuhusay silang pumana at manirador, kanan o kaliwang kamay man. Mga kamag-anak sila ni Saul mula sa lahi ni Benjamin. 3 Pinamumunuan sila nina Ahiezer at Joash na mga anak ni Shemaa na taga-Gibea. Ito ang mga pangalan nila:
sina Jeziel at Pelet na mga anak ni Azmavet,
sina Beraca at Jehu na mga taga-Anatot,
4 si Ishmaya na taga-Gibeon, na isa sa mga tanyag na sundalo at isa rin sa matatapang na pinuno ng 30 matatapang na tao,
sina Jeremias, Jahaziel, Johanan, at Jozabad na taga-Gedera,
5 sina Eluzai, Jerimot, Bealia, Shemaria, at Shefatia na taga-Haruf,
6 sina Elkana, Ishia, Azarel, Joezer, at Jashobeam na mga angkan ni Kora,

8 May mga tao ring mula sa lahi ni Gad ang sumama kay David doon sa matatag na kuta na pinagtataguan niya sa ilang. Matatapang silang sundalo at mahuhusay gumamit ng mga pananggalang at sibat. Kasintapang sila ng mga leon, at kasimbilis ng usa sa kabundukan:
9 si Ezer ang pinuno nila,
si Obadias ang pangalawa,
si Eliab ang pangatlo,
10 si Mishmana ang pang-apat,
si Jeremias ang panglima,
11 si Atai ang pang-anim,
si Eliel ang pampito,
12 si Johanan ang pangwalo,

14 Sila ang lahi ni Gad na mga kumander ng mga sundalo. Ang pinakamahina sa kanila ay makakapamahala ng 100 sundalo, at ang pinakamalakas ay makakapamahala ng 1,000 sundalo. 15 Tinawid nila ang Ilog ng Jordan nang unang buwan ng taon, ang panahong umaapaw ang tubig nito, at itinaboy nila ang lahat ng nakatira sa mga lambak ng silangan at kanluran ng ilog.
16 May mga tao ring nagmula sa mga lahi nina Benjamin at Juda na pumunta kay David doon sa pinagkukutaan niya. 17 Lumabas si David para salubungin sila at sinabi, “Kung pumunta kayo rito para tumulong sa akin bilang kaibigan, tinatanggap ko kayo na sumama sa amin. Pero kung pumunta kayo rito para ibigay ako sa aking mga kalaban kahit wala akong kasalanan, sanaʼy makita ito ng Dios ng ating mga ninuno at parusahan niya kayo.”
18 Pagkatapos, pinuspos ng Espiritu si Amasai na kalaunan ay naging pinuno ng 30 matatapang na sundalo, at sinabi niya,
“Kami po ay sa inyo, O David na anak ni Jesse! Magtagumpay sana kayo at ang mga tumutulong sa inyo, dahil ang Dios ninyo ang tumutulong sa inyo.”
Kaya tinanggap sila ni David at ginawang opisyal ng mga sundalo niya.
19 May mga tao rin na mula sa lahi ni Manase ang sumama kay David nang pumunta siya sa mga Filisteo para makipaglaban kay Saul. Pero hindi pumayag ang mga Filisteo na sumama si David at ang mga tauhan niya, dahil iniisip nila na baka muling pumanig si David sa amo niyang si Saul. Kaya pagkatapos nilang mag-usap, pinabalik nila si David sa Ziklag.
20 Ito ang mga tao na mula sa lahi ni Manase na sumama kay David sa Ziklag: sina Adna, Jozabad, Jediael, Micael, Jozabad, Elihu at Ziletai. Bawat isa sa kanilaʼy pinuno ng 1,000 sundalo sa lahi ni Manase. 21 Tumulong sila kay David sa pakikipaglaban sa mga lumulusob sa kanila, dahil matatapang silang mga mandirigma. Kaya nga naging pinuno sila ng mga sundalo ni David. 22 Sa bawat araw, may mga tao na pumupunta kay David para tumulong, hanggang sa dumami at naging matibay ang kanyang mga sundalo.[a]
23-24 Ito ang bilang ng mga armadong sundalo na pumunta kay David sa Hebron upang tumulong sa kanya na maagaw ang kaharian ni Saul, ayon sa ipinangako ng Panginoon:
Mula sa lahi ni Juda: 6,800 sundalo na may mga dalang sibat at pana.
25 Mula sa lahi ni Simeon: 7,100 mahuhusay na sundalo.
26 Mula sa lahi ni Levi: 4,600 sundalo, 27 kabilang na si Jehoyada na pinuno ng pamilya ni Aaron at ang kanyang 3,700 tauhan, 28 at si Zadok na isang matapang at kabataang mandirigma at ang 22 opisyal mula sa kanyang pamilya.
29 Mula sa lahi ni Benjamin na mga kamag-anak ni Saul: 3,000 sundalo. Karamihan sa lahi ni Benjamin ay nanatiling tapat kay Saul.
30 Mula sa lahi ni Efraim: 20,800 matatapang na sundalo at tanyag sa pamilya nila.
31 Mula sa kalahating lahi ni Manase: 18,000 sundalo. Ipinadala sila para tumulong sa pagluklok kay David na maging hari.
32 Mula sa lahi ni Isacar: 200 pinuno kasama ang mga kamag-anak na pinamamahalaan nila. Sila ang nakakaalam kung ano ang dapat gawin ng Israel at kung kailan ito gagawin.
33 Mula sa lahi ni Zebulun: 50,000 mahuhusay na sundalo na armado ng ibaʼt ibang armas. Handang-handa silang tumulong at mamatay para kay David.
34 Mula sa lahi ni Naftali: 1,000 opisyal at 37,000 sundalo na may dalang mga pananggalang at sibat.
35 Mula sa lahi ni Dan: 28,600 sundalo na handa sa labanan.
36 Mula sa lahi ni Asher: 40,000 mahuhusay na sundalo na handa sa labanan.
37 At mula sa lahi sa silangan ng Ilog ng Jordan, ang lahi ni Reuben, Gad at kalahating lahi ni Manase: 120,000 sundalo na armado ng ibaʼt ibang uri ng armas.
38 Silang lahat ang sundalo na nagprisinta sa pakikipaglaban. Pumunta sila sa Hebron at nagkaisa silang gawing hari si David sa buong Israel. Sa katunayan, halos lahat ng Israelita ay gustong maging hari si David. 39 Nanatili sila roon ng tatlong araw kasama si David na nagsisikain at nag-iinuman dahil pinadalhan sila ng mga kababayan nila ng pagkain. 40 Nagdala rin ng pagkain ang mga kamag-anak nilang mula pa sa malayong lugar ng Isacar, Zebulun at Naftali. Ikinarga nila ito sa mga asno, kamelyo, mola[b] at baka. Marami ang kanilang harina, igos, mga pinatuyong pasas, katas ng ubas at langis, baka at tupa. Masayang-masaya ang lahat sa Israel.

Warriors Join David
12 These were the men who came to David at Ziklag,(A) while he was banished from the presence of Saul son of Kish (they were among the warriors who helped him in battle; 2 they were armed with bows and were able to shoot arrows or to sling stones right-handed or left-handed;(B) they were relatives of Saul(C) from the tribe of Benjamin):
3 Ahiezer their chief and Joash the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; Jeziel and Pelet the sons of Azmaveth; Berakah, Jehu the Anathothite, 4 and Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty warrior among the Thirty, who was a leader of the Thirty; Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan, Jozabad the Gederathite,[a](D) 5 Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, Shemariah and Shephatiah the Haruphite; 6 Elkanah, Ishiah, Azarel, Joezer and Jashobeam the Korahites; 7 and Joelah and Zebadiah the sons of Jeroham from Gedor.(E)
8 Some Gadites(F) defected to David at his stronghold in the wilderness. They were brave warriors, ready for battle and able to handle the shield and spear. Their faces were the faces of lions,(G) and they were as swift as gazelles(H) in the mountains.
9 Ezer was the chief,
Obadiah the second in command, Eliab the third,
10 Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,
11 Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,
12 Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,
13 Jeremiah the tenth and Makbannai the eleventh.
14 These Gadites were army commanders; the least was a match for a hundred,(I) and the greatest for a thousand.(J) 15 It was they who crossed the Jordan in the first month when it was overflowing all its banks,(K) and they put to flight everyone living in the valleys, to the east and to the west.
16 Other Benjamites(L) and some men from Judah also came to David in his stronghold. 17 David went out to meet them and said to them, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, I am ready for you to join me. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies when my hands are free from violence, may the God of our ancestors see it and judge you.”
18 Then the Spirit(M) came on Amasai,(N) chief of the Thirty, and he said:
“We are yours, David!
We are with you, son of Jesse!
Success,(O) success to you,
and success to those who help you,
for your God will help you.”
So David received them and made them leaders of his raiding bands.
19 Some of the tribe of Manasseh defected to David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul. (He and his men did not help the Philistines because, after consultation, their rulers sent him away. They said, “It will cost us our heads if he deserts to his master Saul.”)(P) 20 When David went to Ziklag,(Q) these were the men of Manasseh who defected to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu and Zillethai, leaders of units of a thousand in Manasseh. 21 They helped David against raiding bands, for all of them were brave warriors, and they were commanders in his army. 22 Day after day men came to help David, until he had a great army, like the army of God.[b]
Others Join David at Hebron
23 These are the numbers of the men armed for battle who came to David at Hebron(R) to turn(S) Saul’s kingdom over to him, as the Lord had said:(T)
24 from Judah, carrying shield and spear—6,800 armed for battle;
25 from Simeon, warriors ready for battle—7,100;
26 from Levi—4,600, 27 including Jehoiada, leader of the family of Aaron, with 3,700 men, 28 and Zadok,(U) a brave young warrior, with 22 officers from his family;
29 from Benjamin,(V) Saul’s tribe—3,000, most(W) of whom had remained loyal to Saul’s house until then;
30 from Ephraim, brave warriors, famous in their own clans—20,800;
31 from half the tribe of Manasseh, designated by name to come and make David king—18,000;
32 from Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do(X)—200 chiefs, with all their relatives under their command;
33 from Zebulun, experienced soldiers prepared for battle with every type of weapon, to help David with undivided loyalty—50,000;
34 from Naphtali—1,000 officers, together with 37,000 men carrying shields and spears;
35 from Dan, ready for battle—28,600;
36 from Asher, experienced soldiers prepared for battle—40,000;
37 and from east of the Jordan, from Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, armed with every type of weapon—120,000.
38 All these were fighting men who volunteered to serve in the ranks. They came to Hebron fully determined to make David king over all Israel.(Y) All the rest of the Israelites were also of one mind to make David king. 39 The men spent three days there with David, eating and drinking,(Z) for their families had supplied provisions for them. 40 Also, their neighbors from as far away as Issachar, Zebulun and Naphtali came bringing food on donkeys, camels, mules and oxen. There were plentiful supplies(AA) of flour, fig cakes, raisin(AB) cakes, wine, olive oil, cattle and sheep, for there was joy(AC) in Israel.
