Defeat and Death of Saul and His Sons
10 (A)Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled from the Philistines but fell fatally wounded on Mount Gilboa. 2 And the Philistines also overtook Saul and his sons, and the Philistines [a]killed Jonathan, [b](B)Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul. 3 The battle became severe against Saul, and the archers found him; and he was wounded by the archers. 4 Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword and thrust me through with it, otherwise these uncircumcised Philistines will come and abuse me.” But his armor bearer would not, for he was very afraid. (C)So Saul took his own sword and fell on it. 5 When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword and died. 6 (D)So Saul died with his three sons, and all those of his house died together.
7 When all the people of Israel who were in the valley saw that they had fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.
8 It came about the next day, when the Philistines came to strip those killed, that they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. 9 (E)So they stripped him and took his head and his armor and sent messengers around the land of the Philistines to carry the good news to their idols and to the people. 10 They put his armor in the house of their gods and [c]impaled his head in the house of Dagon.
Jabesh-gilead’s Tribute to Saul
11 When all Jabesh-gilead heard everything that the Philistines had done to Saul, 12 (F)all the valiant men got up and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh; and they buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted for seven days.
13 (G)So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he committed against the Lord, because of the word of the Lord which he did not keep; and also (H)because he asked counsel of a medium, making inquiry of her, 14 and did not inquire of the Lord. Therefore He killed him and (I)turned the kingdom over to David, the son of Jesse.

Saul och hans tre söner dör
(1 Sam 31:1-13)
10 Filistéerna anföll Israel, som flydde för dem, och många stupade på Gilboaberget. 2 Filistéerna förföljde Saul och hans söner och dödade Jonatan, Avinadav och Malki-Shua, Sauls söner. 3 Saul blev hårt pressad och anfölls från alla sidor, och bågskyttarna fann honom och sårade honom.
4 Saul sa då till sin väpnare: ”Dra ut ditt svärd och stöt ner mig, så inte dessa oomskurna hedningar kommer och kränker mig!” Men väpnaren var skräckslagen och vågade inte, så Saul tog själv sitt svärd och kastade sig mot det. 5 När hans väpnare såg att Saul var död, kastade han sig också på sitt svärd och dog. 6 Saul och hans tre söner dog, och hela hans familj blev utplånad på en och samma gång.
7 När israeliterna i dalen nedanför såg att deras trupper flydde och att Saul och hans söner var döda, övergav de sina städer och flydde. Sedan kom filistéerna och intog dem.
8 Nästa dag, när filistéerna gick ut för att plundra de döda, hittade de Saul och hans söner där de låg slagna på berget Gilboa. 9 De tog då alla Sauls tillhörigheter, hans huvud och hans vapen, och skickade runt dem i landet för att alla, både deras gudar och folk, skulle få del av de goda nyheterna. 10 Sauls vapen lade de sedan i sina gudars tempel och hängde upp hans huvud i Dagons tempel.
11 Men när alla i Javesh i Gilead hörde vad filistéerna hade gjort med Saul, 12 drog alla deras vapenföra män ut och hämtade Sauls och hans söners kroppar till Javesh. De begravde benen under det stora trädet i Javesh och fastade i sju dagar.
13 Saul dog på grund av sin trolöshet mot Herren och därför att han inte följt Herrens befallning utan hade rådfrågat en ande från en död 14 i stället för att vända sig till Herren. Därför dödade han honom och gav kungariket till David, Jishajs son.

2 And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.
3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.
4 Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.
6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.
7 And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
9 And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.
10 And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.
11 And when all Jabeshgilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
13 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the Lord, even against the word of the Lord, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;
14 And enquired not of the Lord: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

Saul Takes His Life(A)
10 Now the Philistines fought against Israel; the Israelites fled before them, and many fell dead on Mount Gilboa. 2 The Philistines were in hot pursuit of Saul and his sons, and they killed his sons Jonathan, Abinadab and Malki-Shua. 3 The fighting grew fierce around Saul, and when the archers overtook him, they wounded him.
4 Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and abuse me.”
But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it. 5 When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died. 6 So Saul and his three sons died, and all his house died together.
7 When all the Israelites in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their towns and fled. And the Philistines came and occupied them.
8 The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. 9 They stripped him and took his head and his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news among their idols and their people. 10 They put his armor in the temple of their gods and hung up his head in the temple of Dagon.(B)
11 When all the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead(C) heard what the Philistines had done to Saul, 12 all their valiant men went and took the bodies of Saul and his sons and brought them to Jabesh. Then they buried their bones under the great tree in Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.
13 Saul died(D) because he was unfaithful(E) to the Lord; he did not keep(F) the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium(G) for guidance, 14 and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned(H) the kingdom(I) over to David son of Jesse.
