Death of Saul and His Sons
10 Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled before the Philistines, and fell slain on Mount Gilboa. 2 The Philistines overtook Saul and his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchishua, sons of Saul. 3 The battle pressed hard on Saul; and the archers found him, and he was wounded by the archers. 4 Then Saul said to his armour-bearer, ‘Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, so that these uncircumcised may not come and make sport of me.’ But his armour-bearer was unwilling, for he was terrified. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it. 5 When his armour-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died. 6 Thus Saul died; he and his three sons and all his house died together. 7 When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that the army[a] had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their towns and fled; and the Philistines came and occupied them.
8 The next day when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. 9 They stripped him and took his head and his armour, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to carry the good news to their idols and to the people. 10 They put his armour in the temple of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon. 11 But when all Jabesh-gilead heard everything that the Philistines had done to Saul, 12 all the valiant warriors got up and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh. Then they buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted for seven days.
13 So Saul died for his unfaithfulness; he was unfaithful to the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord; moreover, he had consulted a medium, seeking guidance, 14 and did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord[b] put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.

Muerte de Saúl y de sus hijos(A)
10 Los filisteos pelearon contra los israelitas y los pusieron en fuga, y muchos israelitas murieron en el monte de Gilboa. 2 Los filisteos persiguieron a Saúl y a sus hijos, y de ellos mataron a Jonatán, Abinadab y Malquisúa. 3 Al arreciar la batalla contra Saúl, los flecheros lo alcanzaron y lo hirieron. 4 Saúl dijo entonces a su escudero: «Saca tu espada y clávamela, no sea que estos incircuncisos vengan y se burlen de mí.» Pero su escudero no quiso hacerlo, porque tenía mucho miedo. Entonces Saúl sacó su propia espada, y se arrojó sobre ella. 5 Cuando su escudero vio muerto a Saúl, también él se arrojó sobre su espada y se mató. 6 Así murieron Saúl y sus tres hijos, y con él murió toda su familia.
7 Cuando todos los israelitas que habitaban en el valle vieron que el ejército huía, y que Saúl y sus hijos habían muertos, abandonaron sus ciudades y huyeron, y los filisteos llegaron y las ocuparon. 8 Y al día siguiente, cuando los filisteos llegaron para despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus hijos tendidos en el monte de Gilboa. 9 Entonces lo despojaron, le quitaron la cabeza y sus armas, y enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos para dar la noticia a sus ídolos y al pueblo. 10 Pusieron las armas de Saúl en el templo de sus dioses, y su cabeza la colgaron en el templo de Dagón. 11 Y cuando todos los de Jabés de Galaad supieron lo que los filisteos habían hecho con Saúl, 12 todos los más aguerridos fueron a recoger los cuerpos de Saúl y de sus hijos, y los llevaron a Jabés, y allí en Jabés enterraron sus huesos debajo de una encina, y ayunaron siete días.
13 Así fue como Saúl murió por haberse rebelado y por pecar contra el Señor y contra su palabra, la cual no obedeció,(B) pues prefirió consultar a una adivina(C) 14 en vez de consultarlo a él. Por eso el Señor le quitó la vida y entregó el reino a David hijo de Yesé.
