Saul Takes His Life(A)
10 Now the Philistines fought against Israel; the Israelites fled before them, and many fell dead on Mount Gilboa. 2 The Philistines were in hot pursuit of Saul and his sons, and they killed his sons Jonathan, Abinadab and Malki-Shua. 3 The fighting grew fierce around Saul, and when the archers overtook him, they wounded him.
4 Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and abuse me.”
But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it. 5 When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died. 6 So Saul and his three sons died, and all his house died together.
7 When all the Israelites in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their towns and fled. And the Philistines came and occupied them.
8 The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. 9 They stripped him and took his head and his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news among their idols and their people. 10 They put his armor in the temple of their gods and hung up his head in the temple of Dagon.(B)
11 When all the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead(C) heard what the Philistines had done to Saul, 12 all their valiant men went and took the bodies of Saul and his sons and brought them to Jabesh. Then they buried their bones under the great tree in Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.
13 Saul died(D) because he was unfaithful(E) to the Lord; he did not keep(F) the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium(G) for guidance, 14 and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned(H) the kingdom(I) over to David son of Jesse.

10 Os filisteus atacaram e derrotaram as tropas israelitas, as quais fugiram, tendo sido liquidadas no sopé do monte Gilboa. 2 Os filisteus foram atrás de Saul e dos seus três filhos e mataram Jónatas, Abinadabe e Malquisua. 3 A luta cresceu depois com violência em volta de Saul e os frecheiros conseguiram feri-lo.
4 Então ele gritou ao seu escudeiro: “Desembainha a tua espada e atravessa-me com ela, antes que esta gente incircuncisa me mate, gabando-se ainda do que fizeram.” Mas o homem teve medo de fazer tal coisa. Por isso, Saul pegou na sua própria espada e atirou-se sobre ela. 5 Nessa altura, o escudeiro, vendo que Saul estava morto, matou-se da mesma forma. 6 Foi assim que Saul e os seus três filhos morreram juntos; toda a família foi liquidada.
7 Quando os israelitas no vale souberam que as suas tropas tinham sido derrotadas e que Saul e os seus filhos tinham morrido, abandonaram as cidades e fugiram. Os filisteus ocuparam-nas e passaram a viver nelas.
8 No dia seguinte, quando os filisteus vieram para despojar os mortos, encontraram os corpos de Saul e dos filhos no monte Gilboa. 9 Cortaram a cabeça a Saul, tiraram-lhe as armas e anunciaram-no aos seus deuses e ao seu povo por toda a terra. 10 Penduraram as armas nas paredes do templo dos seus deuses e pregaram a cabeça num muro do templo de Dagom.
11 Quando o povo de Jabes-Gileade ouviu o que os filisteus tinham feito ao corpo de Saul, 12 os seus guerreiros, os mais valentes, voltaram ao campo de batalha e trouxeram o corpo de Saul e dos seus três filhos. Enterraram-no sob um carvalho em Jabes, jejuando depois por sete dias.
13 Saul morreu por causa da sua desobediência ao Senhor e por ter consultado uma médium. 14 Não buscou o Senhor para que o guiasse. Por isso, o Senhor o matou e deu o reino a David, o filho de Jessé.

Tragic End of Saul and His Sons(A)
10 Now (B)the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell slain on Mount Gilboa. 2 Then the Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons. And the Philistines killed Jonathan, [a]Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons. 3 The battle became fierce against Saul. The archers hit him, and he was wounded by the archers. 4 Then Saul said to his armorbearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and abuse me.” But his armorbearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword and fell on it. 5 And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died. 6 So Saul and his three sons died, and all his house died together. 7 And when all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities and fled; then the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8 So it happened the next day, when the Philistines came to [b]strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. 9 And they stripped him and took his head and his armor, and sent word throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temple of their idols and among the people. 10 (C)Then they put his armor in the [c]temple of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.
11 And when all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul, 12 all the (D)valiant men arose and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons; and they brought them to (E)Jabesh, and buried their bones under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
13 So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had [d]committed against the Lord, (F)because he did not keep the word of the Lord, and also because (G)he consulted a medium for guidance. 14 But he did not inquire of the Lord; therefore He killed him, and (H)turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.
