²⁸ Now some of them were in charge of the serving vessels, for they brought them in and took them out by count.

The Reforms of Nehemiah

⁴ Now before this, ^(A)Eliashib the priest, having authority over the storerooms of the house of our God, was allied with ^(B)Tobiah. ⁵ And he had prepared for him a large room, ^(C)where previously they had stored the grain offerings, the frankincense, the articles, the tithes of grain, the new wine and oil, ^(D)which were commanded to be given to the Levites and singers and gatekeepers, and the offerings for the priests.

Temple Responsibilities

^44 (A)And at the same time some were appointed over the rooms of the storehouse for the offerings, the firstfruits, and the ^(B)tithes, to gather into them from the fields of the cities the portions specified by the Law for the priests and Levites; for Judah rejoiced over the priests and Levites who ^[a]ministered.

²⁵ and weighed out to them ^(A)the silver, the gold, and the articles, the offering for the house of our God which the king and his counselors and his princes, and all Israel who were present, had offered. ²⁶ I weighed into their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, silver articles weighing one hundred talents, one hundred talents of gold, ²⁷ twenty gold basins worth a thousand drachmas, and two vessels of fine polished bronze, precious as gold. ²⁸ And I said to them, “You are ^(B)holy^[a] to the Lord; the articles are ^(C)holy also; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to the Lord God of your fathers. ²⁹ Watch and keep them until you weigh them before the leaders of the priests and the Levites and ^(D)heads of the fathers’ houses of Israel in Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the Lord.” ³⁰ So the priests and the Levites received the silver and the gold and the articles by weight, to bring them to Jerusalem to the house of our God.

²² The sons of Jehieli, Zetham and Joel his brother, were over the treasuries of the house of the Lord. ²³ Of the ^(A)Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites: ^24 (B)Shebuel the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was overseer of the treasuries. ²⁵ And his brethren by Eliezer were Rehabiah his son, Jeshaiah his son, Joram his son, Zichri his son, and ^(C)Shelomith his son.

²⁶ This Shelomith and his brethren were over all the treasuries of the dedicated things ^(D)which King David and the heads of fathers’ houses, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the army, had dedicated.

²⁵ Then Balak said to Balaam, “Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all!”

²⁶ So Balaam answered and said to Balak, “Did I not tell you, saying, ^(A)‘All that the Lord speaks, that I must do’?”

²⁷ Then Balak said to Balaam, “Please come, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will please God that you may curse them for me from there.”
