^16 (A)Obadiah the son of ^(B)Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun; and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.

²⁸ And the sons of the singers gathered together from the countryside around Jerusalem, from the ^(A)villages of the Netophathites, ²⁹ from the house of Gilgal, and from the fields of Geba and Azmaveth; for the singers had built themselves villages all around Jerusalem. ³⁰ Then the priests and Levites ^(B)purified themselves, and purified the people, the gates, and the wall.

¹⁷ Mattaniah the son of ^[a]Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, the leader who began the thanksgiving with prayer; Bakbukiah, the second among his brethren; and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

¹⁵ And the singers, the sons of Asaph, were in their places, according to the ^(A)command of David, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer. Also the gatekeepers ^(B)were at each gate; they did not have to leave their position, because their brethren the Levites prepared portions for them.

⁶ All these were under the direction of their father for the music in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, stringed instruments, and ^(A)harps, for the service of the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were ^(B)under the authority of the king.

³ Of ^(A)Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, ^[a]Zeri, Jeshaiah, ^[b]Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, ^[c]six, under the direction of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp to give thanks and to praise the Lord.

The Musicians

25 Moreover David and the captains of the army separated for the service some of the sons of ^(A)Asaph, of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, stringed instruments, and cymbals. And the number of the skilled men performing their service was:

²⁵ of the sons of Simeon, mighty men of valor fit for war, seven thousand one hundred;

⁵⁴ The sons of Salma were Bethlehem, the Netophathites, ^[a]Atroth Beth Joab, half of the Manahethites, and the Zorites.
