14 The (A)descendants of Manasseh: his Syrian concubine bore him (B)Machir the father of Gilead, the father of Asriel.

30 But if they do not cross over armed with you, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.”

31 Then the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying: “As the Lord has said to your servants, so we will do. 32 We will cross over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, but the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us on this side of the Jordan.”

33 So (A)Moses gave to the children of Gad, to the children of Reuben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, (B)the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land with its cities within the borders, the cities of the surrounding country. 34 And the children of Gad built (C)Dibon and Ataroth and (D)Aroer, 35 Atroth and Shophan and (E)Jazer and Jogbehah, 36 (F)Beth Nimrah and Beth Haran, (G)fortified cities, and folds for sheep. 37 And the children of Reuben built (H)Heshbon and Elealeh and Kirjathaim, 38 (I)Nebo and (J)Baal Meon (K)(their names being changed) and Shibmah; and they gave other names to the cities which they built.

39 And the children of (L)Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and [a]dispossessed the Amorites who were in it. 40 So Moses (M)gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he dwelt in it. 41 Also (N)Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its small towns, and called them (O)Havoth Jair.[b] 42 Then Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and he called it Nobah, after his own name.

The Other Half-Tribe of Manasseh (West)

17 There was also a lot for the tribe of Manasseh, for he was the (A)firstborn of Joseph: namely for (B)Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war; therefore he was given (C)Gilead and Bashan. And there was a lot for (D)the rest of the children of Manasseh according to their families: (E)for the children of [a]Abiezer, the children of Helek, (F)the children of Asriel, the children of Shechem, (G)the children of Hepher, and the children of Shemida; these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph according to their families.

But (H)Zelophehad the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but only daughters. And these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
