Descendants of Manasseh

^14 (A)The sons of Manasseh: Asriel, whom his Aramean concubine bore; she bore ^(B)Machir the father of Gilead.

³⁰ However, if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.” ³¹ And the people of Gad and the people of Reuben answered, “What the Lord has said to your servants, we will do. ³² We will pass over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan.”

³³ And ^(A)Moses gave to them, to the people of Gad and to the people of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with their territories, the cities of the land throughout the country. ³⁴ And the people of Gad built ^(B)Dibon, ^(C)Ataroth, ^(D)Aroer, ³⁵ Atroth-shophan, ^(E)Jazer, Jogbehah, ^36 (F)Beth-nimrah and Beth-haran, ^(G)fortified cities, and folds for sheep. ³⁷ And the people of Reuben built ^(H)Heshbon, ^(I)Elealeh, Kiriathaim, ^38 (J)Nebo, and ^(K)Baal-meon (^(L)their names were changed), and ^(M)Sibmah. And they gave other names to the cities that they built. ³⁹ And the sons of ^(N)Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and captured it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it. ⁴⁰ And Moses ^(O)gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he settled in it. ⁴¹ And ^(P)Jair the son of Manasseh went and captured their villages, and called them Havvoth-jair.^{[a] 42} And Nobah went and captured Kenath and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name.

²¹ Afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of ^(A)Machir the father of Gilead, whom he married when he was sixty years old, and she bore him Segub. ²² And Segub fathered Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead. ^23 (B)But Geshur and Aram took from them Havvoth-jair, Kenath, and its villages, sixty towns. All these were descendants of Machir, the father of Gilead.

17 Then allotment was made to the people of Manasseh, for he was ^(A)the firstborn of Joseph. To ^(B)Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, ^(C)were allotted Gilead and Bashan, because he was a man of war. ² And allotments were made ^(D)to the rest of the people of Manasseh by their clans, Abiezer, Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida. These were the male descendants of Manasseh the son of Joseph, by their clans.

³ Now ^(E)Zelophehad the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, had no sons, but only daughters, and these are the names of his daughters: ^(F)Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

³¹ and half Gilead, and ^(A)Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. These were allotted to the people of ^(B)Machir the son of Manasseh for the half of the people of Machir according to their clans.

^13 (A)The rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, that is, ^(B)all the region of Argob, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh. (All that portion of Bashan is called the land of ^(C)Rephaim. ^14 (D)Jair the Manassite took all the region of Argob, that is, Bashan, as far as the border of ^(E)the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and called the villages ^(F)after his own name, Havvoth-jair, as it is to this day.) ¹⁵ To Machir ^(G)I gave Gilead,

The Daughters of Zelophehad

27 Then drew near the daughters of ^(A)Zelophehad the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, from the clans of Manasseh the son of Joseph. The names of his daughters were: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

^29 (A)The sons of Manasseh: of ^(B)Machir, the clan of the Machirites; and Machir was the father of Gilead; ^(C)of Gilead, the clan of the Gileadites. ³⁰ These are the sons of Gilead: of Iezer, the clan of the Iezerites; of Helek, the clan of the Helekites; ³¹ and of Asriel, the clan of the Asrielites; and of Shechem, the clan of the Shechemites; ³² and of Shemida, the clan of the Shemidaites; and of Hepher, the clan of the Hepherites. ³³ Now ^(D)Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters. And the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. ³⁴ These are the clans of Manasseh, and those listed were ^(E)52,700.
