^8 (A)Ahitub begot ^(B)Zadok, and Zadok begot Ahimaaz;

²⁷ The king also said to Zadok the priest, “Are you not a ^(A)seer?^[a] Return to the city in peace, and ^(B)your two sons with you, Ahimaaz your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.

^17 (A)Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were the priests; ^[a]Seraiah was the ^[b]scribe;

³⁵ The king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his place over the army, and the king put ^(A)Zadok the priest in the place of ^(B)Abiathar.

⁴⁴ The king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites; and they have made him ride on the king’s mule.

³⁴ There let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet ^(A)anoint him king over Israel; and ^(B)blow the horn, and say, ^[a]‘Long live King Solomon!’

⁸ But ^(A)Zadok the priest, ^(B)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, ^(C)Nathan the prophet, ^(D)Shimei, Rei, and ^(E)the mighty men who belonged to David were not with Adonijah.

²⁵ Sheva was scribe; ^(A)Zadok and Abiathar were the priests;

²⁷ So the watchman said, ^[a]“I think the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok.”

And the king said, “He is a good man, and comes with ^(A)good news.”

²⁸ So Ahimaaz called out and said to the king, ^[b]“All is well!” Then he bowed down with his face to the earth before the king, and said, ^(B)“Blessed be the Lord your God, who has delivered up the men who raised their hand against my lord the king!”

²⁹ The king said, “Is the young man Absalom safe?”

Ahimaaz answered, “When Joab sent the king’s servant and me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I did not know what it was about.”
