^57 (A)To the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge: Hebron, Libnah with its pasturelands, Jattir, Eshtemoa with its pasturelands,

¹³ And to the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, ^(A)the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasturelands, ^(B)Libnah with its pasturelands, ¹⁴ Jattir with its pasturelands, Eshtemoa with its pasturelands,

⁴⁸ And in the hill country, Shamir, Jattir, Socoh,

¹⁷ The sons of Ezrah: Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon. These are the sons of Bithiah, the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered married;^[a] and she conceived and bore^[b] Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah, the father of Eshtemoa.

¹⁹ The cities of the descendants of Aaron, the priests, were in all thirteen cities with their pasturelands.

⁷ So they set apart ^(A)Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, and ^(B)Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and ^(C)Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) ^(D)in the hill country of Judah. ⁸ And beyond the Jordan east of Jericho, they appointed ^(E)Bezer in the wilderness on the tableland, from the tribe of Reuben, and ^(F)Ramoth in Gilead, from the tribe of Gad, and ^(G)Golan in Bashan, from the tribe of Manasseh. ⁹ These were the cities designated for all the people of Israel and ^(H)for the stranger sojourning among them, that anyone who killed a person without intent could flee there, so that he might not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, till he stood before the congregation.

²⁹ Then Joshua and all Israel with him passed on from Makkedah to ^(A)Libnah and fought against Libnah.

¹³ And the cities that you give shall be your ^(A)six cities of refuge. ^14 (B)You shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and three cities in the land of Canaan, to be cities of refuge. ¹⁵ These six cities shall be for refuge for the people of Israel, and ^(C)for the stranger and for the sojourner among them, that anyone who kills any person without intent may flee there.
