7 Now after these things, in the reign of ^(A)Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the ^(B)son of Seraiah, ^(C)the son of Azariah, the son of ^(D)Hilkiah, ² the son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub, ³ the son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth, ⁴ the son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki, ⁵ the son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest—

The Divisions of the Priests

24 Now these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron. ^(A)The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

²⁰ And ^(A)Phinehas the son of Eleazar had been the officer over them in time past; the Lord was with him.

³ The children of Amram were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. And the sons of Aaron were ^(A)Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ⁴ Eleazar begot Phinehas, and Phinehas begot Abishua; ⁵ Abishua begot Bukki, and Bukki begot Uzzi; ⁶ Uzzi begot Zerahiah, and Zerahiah begot Meraioth; ⁷ Meraioth begot Amariah, and Amariah begot Ahitub; ^8 (B)Ahitub begot ^(C)Zadok, and Zadok begot Ahimaaz; ⁹ Ahimaaz begot Azariah, and Azariah begot Johanan;

²² So Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation.

²⁶ and strip Aaron of his garments and put them on Eleazar his son; for Aaron shall be gathered to his people and die there.” ²⁷ So Moses did just as the Lord commanded, and they went up to Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation. ^28 (A)Moses stripped Aaron of his garments and put them on Eleazar his son; and ^(B)Aaron died there on the top of the mountain. Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

³² And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest was to be chief over the leaders of the Levites, with oversight of those who kept charge of the sanctuary.

^4 (A)Nadab and Abihu had died before the Lord when they offered profane fire before the Lord in the Wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar ministered as priests in the presence of Aaron their father.
