⁴⁷ the son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi.

²⁸ because their duty was to help the sons of Aaron in the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts and in the chambers, in the purifying of all holy things and the work of the service of the house of God,

^21 (A)The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar and ^(B)Kish.

^34 (A)And to the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with its common-land, Kartah with its common-land, ³⁵ Dimnah with its common-land, and Nahalal with its common-land: four cities; ^36 [a]and from the tribe of Reuben, ^(B)Bezer with its common-land, Jahaz with its common-land, ³⁷ Kedemoth with its common-land, and Mephaath with its common-land: four cities; ³⁸ and from the tribe of Gad, ^(C)Ramoth in Gilead with its common-land (a city of refuge for the slayer), Mahanaim with its common-land, ³⁹ Heshbon with its common-land, and Jazer with its common-land: four cities in all. ⁴⁰ So all the cities for the children of Merari according to their families, the rest of the families of the Levites, were by their lot twelve cities.

^7 (A)The children of Merari according to their families had twelve cities from the tribe of Reuben, from the tribe of Gad, and from the tribe of Zebulun.

¹⁷ Then ^(A)the tabernacle was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set out, ^(B)carrying the tabernacle.

^8 (A)and four carts and eight oxen he gave to the sons of Merari, according to their service, under the ^[a]authority of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.

⁴² Those of the families of the sons of Merari who were numbered, by their families, by their fathers’ ^[a]house,

³³ From Merari came the family of the Mahlites and the family of the Mushites; these were the families of Merari. ³⁴ And those who were numbered, according to the number of all the males from a month old and above, were six thousand two hundred. ³⁵ The leader of the fathers’ house of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail. ^(A)These were to camp on the north side of the tabernacle. ³⁶ And ^(B)the appointed duty of the children of Merari included the boards of the tabernacle, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, its utensils, all the work relating to them,

^20 (A)And the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites by their fathers’ houses.
