²⁴ All the leaders and the mighty men, and also all the sons of King David, ^(A)submitted^[a] themselves to King Solomon.

¹⁸ Since he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, and in fact ^(A)gave^[a] his hand and still did all these things, he shall not escape.’ ”

⁸ Now do not be ^(A)stiff-necked,^[a] as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to the Lord; and enter His sanctuary, which He has sanctified forever, and serve the Lord your God, ^(B)that the fierceness of His wrath may turn away from you.

²¹ Here are ^(A)the divisions of the priests and the Levites for all the service of the house of God; and ^(B)every willing craftsman will be with you for all manner of workmanship, for every kind of service; also the leaders and all the people will be completely at your command.”

¹⁷ David also commanded all the ^(A)leaders of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,

From Judah to David^(A)

³ The sons of ^(B)Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by the daughter of ^(C)Shua, the Canaanitess. ^(D)Er, the firstborn of Judah, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; so He killed him. ⁴ And ^(E)Tamar, his daughter-in-law, ^(F)bore him Perez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five.

⁵ The sons of ^(G)Perez were Hezron and Hamul. ⁶ The sons of Zerah were ^[a]Zimri, ^(H)Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and ^[b]Dara—five of them in all.

⁷ The son of ^(I)Carmi was ^[c]Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the ^(J)accursed^[d] thing.

⁸ The son of Ethan was Azariah.

⁹ Also the sons of Hezron who were born to him were Jerahmeel, ^[e]Ram, and ^[f]Chelubai.

²⁴ Now therefore, as the Lord lives, who has confirmed me and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has established a ^[a]house for me, as He ^(A)promised, Adonijah shall be put to death today!”

²⁵ So King Solomon sent by the hand of ^(B)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he struck him down, and he died.

⁵⁰ Now Adonijah was afraid of Solomon; so he arose, and went and ^(A)took hold of the horns of the altar. ⁵¹ And it was told Solomon, saying, “Indeed Adonijah is afraid of King Solomon; for look, he has taken hold of the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let King Solomon swear to me today that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.’ ”

⁵² Then Solomon said, “If he proves himself a worthy man, ^(B)not one hair of him shall fall to the earth; but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die.” ⁵³ So King Solomon sent them to bring him down from the altar. And he came and fell down before King Solomon; and Solomon said to him, “Go to your house.”

²⁹ When the time ^(A)drew near that Israel must die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “Now if I have found favor in your sight, please ^(B)put your hand under my thigh, and ^(C)deal kindly and truly with me. ^(D)Please do not bury me in Egypt,
