⁶ All these were under the direction of their father for the music in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, stringed instruments, and ^(A)harps, for the service of the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were ^(B)under the authority of the king.

The Musicians

25 Moreover David and the captains of the army separated for the service some of the sons of ^(A)Asaph, of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, stringed instruments, and cymbals. And the number of the skilled men performing their service was: ² Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and ^[a]Asharelah; the sons of Asaph were ^[b]under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied according to the order of the king. ³ Of ^(B)Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, ^[c]Zeri, Jeshaiah, ^[d]Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, ^[e]six, under the direction of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp to give thanks and to praise the Lord.

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another ^(A)in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

¹⁹ speaking to one another ^(A)in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making ^(B)melody in your heart to the Lord,

⁵ four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand ^(A)praised the Lord with musical instruments, ^(B)“which I made,” said David, “for giving praise.”

²² Chenaniah, leader of the Levites, was instructor in charge of the music, because he was skillful;

¹⁹ the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were to sound the cymbals of bronze;

¹⁶ Then David spoke to the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers accompanied by instruments of music, stringed instruments, harps, and cymbals, by raising the voice with resounding joy.
