⁹ See, a son shall be born to you; he shall be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; indeed, his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace^[a] and quiet to Israel in his days.^(A)

²⁵ During Solomon’s lifetime Judah and Israel lived in safety, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, all of them under their vines and fig trees.^(A)

⁴ But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor misfortune.^(A)

Magnificence of Solomon’s Rule

[[²⁰ Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand by the sea; they ate and drank and were happy.^(A)

Solomon Is Born

²⁴ Then David consoled his wife Bathsheba and went to her and lay with her, and she bore a son, and he named him Solomon. The Lord loved him^{(A) 25} and sent a message by the prophet Nathan, so he named him Jedidiah^[a] because of the Lord.

⁹ The latter splendor of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts, and in this place I will give prosperity, says the Lord of hosts.”^(A)
