⁵ When the ^(A)Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David killed twenty-two thousand of the Syrians.

⁶ When the people of Ammon saw that they had made themselves repulsive to David, Hanun and the people of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire for themselves chariots and horsemen from ^[a]Mesopotamia, from Syrian Maacah, ^(A)and from ^[b]Zobah.

³ And ^(A)David ^[a]defeated ^[b]Hadadezer king of Zobah as far as Hamath, as he went to establish his power by the River Euphrates.

²³ And God raised up another adversary against him, Rezon the son of Eliadah, who had fled from his lord, ^(A)Hadadezer king of Zobah. ²⁴ So he gathered men to him and became captain over a band of raiders, ^(B)when David killed those of Zobah. And they went to Damascus and dwelt there, and reigned in Damascus.

^5 (A)When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David killed twenty-two thousand of the Syrians. ⁶ Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants, and brought tribute. So ^(B)the Lord preserved David wherever he went.

Saul’s Continuing Wars

⁴⁷ So Saul established his sovereignty over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, against the people of ^(A)Ammon, against Edom, against the kings of ^(B)Zobah, and against the Philistines. Wherever he turned, he ^[a]harassed them.
