²³ God also raised up as an adversary to him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his master ^(A)Hadadezer king of Zobah. ²⁴ And he gathered men about him and became leader of a marauding band, ^(B)after the killing by David. And they went to Damascus and lived there and made him king in Damascus.

^5 (A)And when the ^(B)Syrians of Damascus came to help ^(C)Hadadezer king of ^(D)Zobah, David struck down 22,000 men of the Syrians. ⁶ Then David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Syrians ^(E)became servants to David and brought tribute. ^(F)And the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went.

⁴⁷ When Saul had taken the kingship over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, ^(A)against the Ammonites, against Edom, against the kings of ^(B)Zobah, and against the Philistines. Wherever he turned he routed them.
