66 This is what the Lord says:

¹⁶ ‘From the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have never chosen a city among any of the tribes of Israel as the place where a Temple should be built to honor my name. But I have chosen David to be king over my people Israel.’”

² “Set up the Tabernacle^[a] on the first day of the new year.^{[b] 3} Place the Ark of the Covenant^[c] inside, and install the inner curtain to enclose the Ark within the Most Holy Place.

⁴⁴ “Our ancestors carried the Tabernacle^[a] with them through the wilderness. It was constructed according to the plan God had shown to Moses. ⁴⁵ Years later, when Joshua led our ancestors in battle against the nations that God drove out of this land, the Tabernacle was taken with them into their new territory. And it stayed there until the time of King David.

⁴⁶ “David found favor with God and asked for the privilege of building a permanent Temple for the God of Jacob.^{[b] 47} But it was Solomon who actually built it. ⁴⁸ However, the Most High doesn’t live in temples made by human hands. As the prophet says,

⁴ The priests and Levites brought up the Ark of the Lord along with the special tent^[a] and all the sacred items that had been in it.
