³ O Lord, what are humans that you regard them,
    or mortals that you think of them?^(A)
4 They are like a breath;
    their days are like a passing shadow.^(B)

⁵ Bow your heavens, O Lord, and come down;
    touch the mountains so that they smoke.^(C)
6 Make the lightning flash and scatter them;
    send out your arrows and rout them.^(D)

⁷ But you indeed are awesome!
    Who can stand before you
    when your anger is roused?^(A)

⁵ Come and see what God has done:
    he is awesome in his deeds among mortals.^(C)

“Great and amazing are your deeds,
    Lord God the Almighty!
Just and true are your ways,
    King of the nations!^[a](A)
4 Lord, who will not fear
    and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy.
    All nations will come
    and worship before you,
for your judgments have been revealed.”^(B)

⁶ There is none like you, O Lord;
    you are great, and your name is great in might.^(A)
7 Who would not fear you, O King of the nations?
    For that is your due;
among all the wise ones of the nations
    and in all their kingdoms
    there is no one like you.^(B)
8 They are both stupid and foolish;
    the instruction given by idols
    is no better than wood!^[a](C)
9 Beaten silver is brought from Tarshish
    and gold from Uphaz.
They are the work of the artisan and of the hands of the goldsmith;
    their clothing is blue and purple;
    they are all the product of skilled workers.^(D)
10 But the Lord is the true God;
    he is the living God and the everlasting King.
At his wrath the earth quakes,
    and the nations cannot endure his indignation.^[b](E)

¹² Who has measured the waters of the sea^[a] in the hollow of his hand
    and marked off the heavens with a span,
enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure
    and weighed the mountains in scales
    and the hills in a balance?^(A)
13 Who has directed the spirit of the Lord
    or as his counselor has instructed him?^(B)
14 Whom did he consult for his enlightenment,
    and who taught him the path of justice?
[[Who taught him knowledge
    and showed him the way of understanding?
¹⁵ Even the nations are like a drop from a bucket
    and are accounted as dust on the scales;
    see, he takes up the isles like fine dust.^(C)
16 Lebanon would not provide fuel enough,
    nor are its animals enough for a burnt offering.]]^[b]
17 All the nations are as nothing before him;
    they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness.^(D)
