²² For at that time they came to David day by day to help him, until it was a great army, ^(A)like the army of God.

Joab Kills Abner

3 Now there was a long ^(A)war between the house of Saul and the house of David. But David grew stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.

¹⁴ So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.”

And Joshua ^(A)fell on his face to the earth and ^(B)worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my Lord say to His servant?”

² When Jacob saw them, he said, “This is God’s ^(A)camp.” And he called the name of that place ^[a]Mahanaim.

² So David went up there, and his ^(A)two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite. ³ And David brought up ^(B)the men who were with him, every man with his household. So they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.

^4 (C)Then the men of Judah came, and there they ^(D)anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, ^(E)“The men of Jabesh Gilead were the ones who buried Saul.”
