³ Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And ^(A)they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord ^[a]by ^(B)Samuel.

¹² So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ^(A)ruddy, ^(B)with ^[a]bright eyes, and good-looking. ^(C)And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” ¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and ^(D)the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

David Anointed King

16 Now the Lord said to Samuel, ^(A)“How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? ^(B)Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to ^(C)Jesse the Bethlehemite. For ^(D)I have ^[a]provided Myself a king among his sons.”

^3 (A)Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, ^(B)and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron ^(C)before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel.

^4 (A)Then the men of Judah came, and there they ^(B)anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, ^(C)“The men of Jabesh Gilead were the ones who buried Saul.”

³ Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you.”

³ Then all the assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said to them, “Behold, the king’s son shall reign, as the Lord has ^(A)said of the sons of David.

^30 (A)Then his servants moved his body in a chariot from Megiddo, brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb. And ^(B)the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, anointed him, and made him king in his father’s place.

^17 (A)Then Jehoiada ^(B)made a covenant between the Lord, the king, and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people, and also ^(C)between the king and the people.
