²² And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was a valiant man^[a] of Kabzeel, a doer of great deeds. He struck down two heroes of Moab. He also went down and struck down a lion in a pit on a day when snow had fallen.

¹⁸ and ^(A)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over^[a] the ^(B)Cherethites and the Pelethites, and David's sons were priests.

²¹ The cities belonging to the tribe of the people of Judah in the extreme south, toward the boundary of Edom, were Kabzeel, ^(A)Eder, Jagur,

⁵ The third commander, for the third month, was ^(A)Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada the chief priest; in his division were 24,000. ⁶ This is the Benaiah ^(B)who was a mighty man of the thirty and in command of the thirty; Ammizabad his son was in charge of his division.^[a]

⁸ From the Gadites there went over to David at the stronghold in the wilderness mighty and experienced warriors, expert with shield and spear, whose faces were like the faces of lions and who were ^(A)swift as gazelles upon the mountains:

³⁴ Then Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and struck him down and put him to death. And he was buried in his own house in the wilderness. ^35 (A)The king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada over the army in place of Joab, and the king put ^(B)Zadok the priest ^(C)in the place of Abiathar.

³⁰ So Benaiah came to the tent of the Lord and said to him, “The king commands, ‘Come out.’” But he said, “No, I will die here.” Then Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, “Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me.”

³⁸ So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, ^(A)and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David's mule and brought him to Gihon.

⁸ But ^(A)Zadok the priest and ^(B)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada and ^(C)Nathan the prophet and ^(D)Shimei and Rei and ^(E)David's mighty men were not with Adonijah.

²⁰ And ^(A)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was a valiant man^[a] of ^(B)Kabzeel, a doer of great deeds. He struck down two ariels^[b] of Moab. He also went down and struck down a lion in a pit on a day when snow had fallen. ²¹ And he struck down an Egyptian, a handsome man. The Egyptian had a spear in his hand, but Benaiah went down to him with a staff and snatched the spear out of the Egyptian's hand and killed him with his own spear. ²² These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and won a name beside the three mighty men. ²³ He was renowned among the thirty, but he did not attain to the three. And David set him over his bodyguard.
