For those who speak in a tongue do not speak to other people but to God, for no one understands them, since they are speaking mysteries in the Spirit.(A) But those who prophesy speak to other people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation.(B) Those who speak in a tongue build up themselves, but those who prophesy build up the church.

For anyone who speaks in a tongue[a](A) does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them;(B) they utter mysteries(C) by the Spirit. But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening,(D) encouraging(E) and comfort.
