22 Impose not hands lightly upon any man, neither be partaker of other men's sins. Keep thyself chaste.

23 Do not still drink water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake, and thy frequent infirmities.

24 Some men's sins are manifest, going before to judgment: and some men they follow after.

25 In like manner also good deeds are manifest: and they that are otherwise, cannot be hid.

Whosoever are servants under the yoke, let them count their masters worthy of all honour; lest the name of the Lord and his doctrine be blasphemed.

But they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but serve them the rather, because they are faithful and beloved, who are partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.

If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to that doctrine which is according to godliness,

He is proud, knowing nothing, but sick about questions and strifes of words; from which arise envies, contentions, blasphemies, evil suspicions,

Conflicts of men corrupted in mind, and who are destitute of the truth, supposing gain to be godliness.

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

For we brought nothing into this world: and certainly we can carry nothing out.

But having food, and wherewith to be covered, with these we are content.

For they that will become rich, fall into temptation, and into the snare of the devil, and into many unprofitable and hurtful desires, which drown men into destruction and perdition.

10 For the desire of money is the root of all evils; which some coveting have erred from the faith, and have entangled themselves in many sorrows.

11 But thou, O man of God, fly these things: and pursue justice, godliness, faith, charity, patience, mildness.

22 Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands,(A) and do not share in the sins of others.(B) Keep yourself pure.(C)

23 Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine(D) because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.

24 The sins of some are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them. 25 In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are not obvious cannot remain hidden forever.

All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect,(E) so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered.(F) Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers.(G) Instead, they should serve them even better because their masters are dear to them as fellow believers and are devoted to the welfare[a] of their slaves.

False Teachers and the Love of Money

These are the things you are to teach and insist on.(H) If anyone teaches otherwise(I) and does not agree to the sound instruction(J) of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, they are conceited(K) and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words(L) that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth(M) and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

But godliness with contentment(N) is great gain.(O) For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.(P) But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.(Q) Those who want to get rich(R) fall into temptation and a trap(S) and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money(T) is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith(U) and pierced themselves with many griefs.(V)

Final Charge to Timothy

11 But you, man of God,(W) flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness,(X) faith, love,(Y) endurance and gentleness.
