16 Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith[a]:

Christ[b] was revealed in a human body
    and vindicated by the Spirit.[c]
He was seen by angels
    and announced to the nations.
He was believed in throughout the world
and taken to heaven in glory.

Warnings against False Teachers

Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons. These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead.[d]

They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth. Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks. For we know it is made acceptable[e] by the word of God and prayer.

16 Beyond all question, the mystery(A) from which true godliness(B) springs is great:

He appeared in the flesh,(C)
    was vindicated by the Spirit,[a]
was seen by angels,
    was preached among the nations,(D)
was believed on in the world,
    was taken up in glory.(E)

The Spirit(F) clearly says that in later times(G) some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits(H) and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.(I) They forbid people to marry(J) and order them to abstain from certain foods,(K) which God created(L) to be received with thanksgiving(M) by those who believe and who know the truth. For everything God created is good,(N) and nothing is to be rejected(O) if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God(P) and prayer.
