9 understanding this, that the (A)law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10 the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers,[a] liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to (B)sound[b] doctrine, 11 in accordance with (C)the gospel of the glory of (D)the blessed God (E)with which I have been entrusted.
Christ Jesus Came to Save Sinners
12 I thank him (F)who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, (G)appointing me to his service, 13 though formerly I was a blasphemer, (H)persecutor, and insolent opponent. But (I)I received mercy (J)because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, 14 and (K)the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the (L)faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15 The saying is (M)trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus (N)came into the world to save sinners, (O)of whom I am the foremost. 16 But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. 17 To (P)the King of the ages, (Q)immortal, (R)invisible, (S)the only God, (T)be honor and glory forever and ever.[c] Amen.
18 This charge (U)I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with (V)the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may (W)wage the good warfare, 19 (X)holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have (Y)made shipwreck of their faith, 20 among whom are (Z)Hymenaeus and (AA)Alexander, whom I (AB)have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to (AC)blaspheme.
Pray for All People
2 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 (AD)for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and (AE)dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and (AF)it is pleasing in the sight of (AG)God our Savior, 4 who desires (AH)all people to be saved and (AI)to come to (AJ)the knowledge of the truth. 5 For (AK)there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man[d] Christ Jesus, 6 (AL)who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is (AM)the testimony given (AN)at the proper time.

9 We also know that the law is made not for the righteous(A) but for lawbreakers and rebels,(B) the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine(C) 11 that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.(D)
The Lord’s Grace to Paul
12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength,(E) that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service.(F) 13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor(G) and a violent man, I was shown mercy(H) because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.(I) 14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly,(J) along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.(K)
15 Here is a trustworthy saying(L) that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners(M)—of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy(N) so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience(O) as an example for those who would believe(P) in him and receive eternal life.(Q) 17 Now to the King(R) eternal, immortal,(S) invisible,(T) the only God,(U) be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.(V)
The Charge to Timothy Renewed
18 Timothy, my son,(W) I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you,(X) so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well,(Y) 19 holding on to faith and a good conscience,(Z) which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.(AA) 20 Among them are Hymenaeus(AB) and Alexander,(AC) whom I have handed over to Satan(AD) to be taught not to blaspheme.
Instructions on Worship
2 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers,(AE) intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority,(AF) that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness(AG) and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases(AH) God our Savior,(AI) 4 who wants(AJ) all people(AK) to be saved(AL) and to come to a knowledge of the truth.(AM) 5 For there is one God(AN) and one mediator(AO) between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,(AP) 6 who gave himself as a ransom(AQ) for all people. This has now been witnessed to(AR) at the proper time.(AS)
