From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;

Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;

Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

11 According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers(A) of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.(B)

We know that the law is good(C) if one uses it properly. We also know that the law is made not for the righteous(D) but for lawbreakers and rebels,(E) the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine(F) 11 that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.(G)

12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength,(H) that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service.(I)
