1 Timothy 1:3-7
King James Version
3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;
7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

Timothy Charged to Oppose False Teachers
3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia,(A) stay there in Ephesus(B) so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines(C) any longer 4 or to devote themselves to myths(D) and endless genealogies.(E) Such things promote controversial speculations(F) rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith. 5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart(G) and a good conscience(H) and a sincere faith.(I) 6 Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. 7 They want to be teachers(J) of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.(K)

Warning Against False Teachers
3 (A)As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not (B)to teach any different doctrine, 4 nor (C)to devote themselves to myths and endless (D)genealogies, which promote (E)speculations rather than the stewardship[a] from God that is by faith. 5 The aim of our charge is love (F)that issues from a pure heart and (G)a good conscience and (H)a sincere faith. 6 Certain persons, by (I)swerving from these, have wandered away into (J)vain discussion, 7 desiring to be teachers of the law, (K)without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions.

False Doctrine and Misuse of the Law
3 As I urged you when I went to Macedonia,(A) remain in Ephesus(B) so that you may instruct certain people(C) not to teach false doctrine 4 or to pay attention to myths(D) and endless genealogies. These promote empty speculations rather than God’s plan,(E) which operates by faith. 5 Now the goal of our instruction is love(F) that comes from a pure heart,(G) a good conscience,(H) and a sincere faith.(I) 6 Some have departed from these and turned aside to fruitless discussion. 7 They want to be teachers of the law, although they don’t understand what they are saying or what they are insisting on.

3 As I urged you [a]upon my departure for (A)Macedonia, [b]remain on at (B)Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to (C)teach strange doctrines, 4 nor to [c]pay attention to (D)myths and endless (E)genealogies, which give rise to mere (F)speculation rather than (G)furthering [d]the administration of God which is by faith. 5 But the goal of our [e](H)instruction is love (I)from a pure heart and a (J)good conscience and a sincere (K)faith. 6 For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to (L)fruitless discussion, 7 (M)wanting to be (N)teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions.
