19 Yet the people (A)refused to listen to the voice of Samuel, and they said, “No, but there shall be a king over us, 20 (B)so that we also may be like all the nations, and our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.” 21 Now after Samuel had heard all the words of the people, (C)he [a]repeated them in the Lord’s hearing. 22 And the Lord said to Samuel, “(D)Listen to their voice and appoint a king for them.” So Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Go, every man to his city.”

19 But the people refused(A) to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want(B) a king(C) over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations,(D) with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”
21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated(E) it before the Lord. 22 The Lord answered, “Listen(F) to them and give them a king.”
Then Samuel said to the Israelites, “Everyone go back to your own town.”
