8 So Saul disguised(A) himself, putting on other clothes, and at night he and two men went to the woman. “Consult(B) a spirit for me,” he said, “and bring up for me the one I name.”

He told her, “Pretend to be in mourning: dress in mourning clothes and don’t put on any oil.(C) Act like a woman who has been mourning for the dead for a long time. 3 Go to the king and speak these words to him.” Then Joab told her exactly what to say.[a]

Dress in mourning clothes, and don’t use any cosmetic lotions.(C) Act like a woman who has spent many days grieving for the dead. 3 Then go to the king and speak these words to him.” And Joab(D) put the words in her mouth.
