26 Then Saul went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men on the other side of the mountain. (A)So David made haste to get away from Saul, for Saul and his men (B)were encircling David and his men to take them.
27 (C)But a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Hurry and come, for the Philistines have invaded the land!” 28 Therefore Saul returned from pursuing David, and went against the Philistines; so they called that place [a]the Rock of Escape. 29 Then David went up from there and dwelt in strongholds at (D)En Gedi.

26 Saul(A) was going along one side of the mountain, and David and his men were on the other side, hurrying to get away from Saul. As Saul and his forces were closing in on David and his men to capture them, 27 a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Come quickly! The Philistines are raiding the land.” 28 Then Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to meet the Philistines. That is why they call this place Sela Hammahlekoth.[a] 29 And David went up from there and lived in the strongholds(B) of En Gedi.[b](C)
