1 Samuel 20:6-8
International Children’s Bible
6 Your father may notice I am gone. If he does, tell him, ‘David begged me to let him go to his hometown of Bethlehem. Every year at this time, his family group offers a sacrifice.’ 7 If your father says, ‘Fine,’ I am safe. But if he becomes angry, you can believe he wants to hurt me. 8 Jonathan, be kind to me, your servant. You have made an agreement with me before the Lord. If I am guilty, you may kill me yourself! Why hand me over to your father?”

1 Samuel 20:6-8
New International Version
6 If your father misses me at all, tell him, ‘David earnestly asked my permission(A) to hurry to Bethlehem,(B) his hometown, because an annual(C) sacrifice is being made there for his whole clan.’ 7 If he says, ‘Very well,’ then your servant is safe. But if he loses his temper,(D) you can be sure that he is determined(E) to harm me. 8 As for you, show kindness to your servant, for you have brought him into a covenant(F) with you before the Lord. If I am guilty, then kill(G) me yourself! Why hand me over to your father?”
